Ms. Tuyet said that at around 11pm on December 14, she and her husband had just returned home when they received a phone call from a worker at the family pig farm not far from home about the farm being on fire. She and her husband immediately returned and witnessed the scene of the factory collapsing and thousands of dead pigs, many of them burned and lying around.
Workers at Ms. Tuyet's farm said that an electrical short circuit caused a fire in a barn. Shortly after the fire started, the metal roof collapsed onto the wet floor, dragging along the electric wires, and the pigs were electrocuted to death.
The pig farm of Ms. Hoang Thi Tuyet and her husband has just been built for 2 years. Currently, the farm is raising 600 pigs weighing about 20kg/pig and nearly 700 pigs weighing 45-50kg/pig.
According to Ms. Tuyet, the herd of nearly 1,300 pigs was raised since the beginning of the year to prepare for Tet sale. With nearly 1,300 pigs, if sold at an average price of 50,000 VND/kg, it would bring in about 2 billion VND. Along with that, after the fire, the electrical system and machinery were completely damaged, part of the corrugated iron roof collapsed, and the food reserves were burned. The total damage from the fire was about 10 billion VND including the cost of pigs, food, and the barn system....

"Right now, people near and far are helping to classify and slaughter pigs for freezing, some are buying to support my husband and I. Tet is near, my husband and I don't know how to manage in the coming time when the damage is too great, the debt has not been paid off yet" - Ms. Hoang Thi Tuyet said.
