Heartbreaking situation of Nghe An father with cancer taking care of son with bone tumor

Orphaned at a young age, after finishing 9th grade, Mr. Dinh went to the South to do business and married a girl from Anh Son district. The couple had 2 children: Nguyen Xuan Tuan Khanh (born 2006) and Nguyen Xuan Tuan Khang (born 2011). After moving back to their hometown to live for a while, due to family conflicts, his wife left home.

Nguyen Xuan Tuan Khang (8 years old) has bone tumor and has undergone 3 surgeries.

Over the years, Mr. Dinh has been making a living as a delivery man, and life has been quite difficult. He thought that being a single father raising a child was already difficult, but one disaster after another befell his family.

In November 2018, Khang had pain in the right ankle joint. At first, he went to the doctor and was diagnosed with arthritis, but the medicine did not help. Later, it was discovered that he had a bone tumor. At the end of that year, he had his first leg surgery. At the beginning of his illness, Mr. Dinh still took his son to school (Khang was in 2nd grade at Ngoc Son Primary School), but since the leg surgery, he has not been able to go to school anymore.

Two months after the surgery, Khang's illness relapsed, swelling and pain as before. At the same time, during a health check, the doctor informed Dinh that he had thyroid cancer. Feeling sorry for his sick child, crying day and night, in poverty and not finding a way to save his child, he received the news that he had a serious illness. At this time, Dinh fell into a serious mental crisis: "I was really confused and miserable when I received this news."

Thanks to the encouragement and help of his brothers and friends, in February 2019, both father and son were taken to the hospital for surgery at the same time. Dinh had surgery at the Central Endocrinology Hospital. Khang had surgery at the Central Children's Hospital.

After this surgery, Mr. Dinh lost his voice, had difficulty speaking, and his health was much weaker. However, due to family circumstances, he just waited for the wound to heal, then threw himself into the job of a shipper to earn money. As for Khang, after the second surgery, he could no longer walk and had to stay in one place.

Mr. Dinh said Khang was an active child. When he first got sick, he wanted to go to school and often mentioned his class and friends. But after the second surgery, he became depressed, did not want to interact with strangers, and did not talk to anyone.

Every day, his mother took care of the child for him so he could run the store. He worked and treated the disease, trying his best for his child. Many days at work, tears mixed with sweat. Last May, a few months after the surgery, he went to the hospital for his first radiation treatment and will have his next radiation treatment in November.

After the second surgery, after returning home for a while, Khang's condition showed no signs of improvement, and seemed to have gotten worse. On August 17, father and son carried each other to the National Children's Hospital to continue Khang's third surgery.

Currently, Khang has undergone surgery and is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, his health is very weak. Seeing the scene of the father and son in the hospital, the father with thyroid cancer taking care of his son with bone tumor, many people really cannot hold back their tears.

Mr. Dinh wrote on his personal page: "Today, your friends have gone to school, but you are still in the hospital, still fighting against this terrible disease. Always be strong, because by your side, your father is always with you...".

Both father and son were sick, but when he heard that there was a place that could cure bone tumors, regardless of the distance, he borrowed money and took his child with him" - Mrs. Hien said.

He plans to take care of his son after his third surgery at the National Children's Hospital.

Mr. Cao Xuan Ngoc - head of hamlet 13, Ngoc Son commune said: "Mr. Dinh's family is one of the poorest households in the hamlet, with the most difficult circumstances in the hamlet, both father and son are seriously ill at the same time.
