(Baonghean.vn) - Suffering from heart valve disease and aortic aneurysm, but before she could celebrate the success of the surgery, the doctor announced that she had white blood cell bleeding in the brain and right-sided cerebral edema. Due to poverty and the burden of debt, her family had to take her home to take care of herself. That was the tragic situation of Ms. Duong Thi Nga (35 years old) in hamlet 14, Nam Trung commune, Nam Dan.

Having always been healthy and never had any illness, suddenly after coming home from work one day, Ms. Nga felt dizzy and fainted. Her husband, Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, took her to the provincial general hospital for examination, where the doctor diagnosed her with heart failure. Her husband continued to take his wife to the Cardiology Department, Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi for further examination, where she was diagnosed with heart failure and aortic aneurysm.

After nearly 2 months of treatment, Ms. Nga underwent surgery at Bach Mai Hospital to replace her mitral valve. Before she could celebrate the surgery, the hospital informed her that she had white blood in her brain and right-sided cerebral edema. To sustain her life, the hospital opened her esophagus to insert an oxygen breathing tube.

Mr. Thang has to constantly provide support so his wife can breathe.

After a period of treatment at Bach Mai Hospital, Ms. Nga was transferred to Nghe An General Hospital, then transferred to Nam Dan District Hospital to be closer to home for convenient care and to reduce travel costs. However, since being transferred to the District Hospital, Ms. Nga has been unconscious.

After 3 months of treating his wife, the debt had reached 160 million VND. Unable to borrow any more money, Mr. Thang had to take his wife home and personally remove the phlegm to block her airway, adjust the oxygen tank and take care of her like a child.

With her illness, the doctors required her to take anticoagulants for life. However, this medicine is sold by prescription, while Mr. Thang brought his wife home so he did not have a prescription to buy the medicine. Ms. Nga had to face many risks of unpredictable complications while her health was getting worse. Ms. Nga's life depended entirely on machines, so someone had to be on duty 24/7. During the day, her two sons and neighbors took turns coming to help, while Mr. Thang was on duty at night.

Every time his mother was in pain, Tan cried and begged her not to die...

Since his wife fell ill, Mr. Thang had to quit his job as a construction worker, so he had no money to feed the family. The cost of surgery, travel, medicine for his wife, debt repayment, and preparing for the new school year for his two children left him exhausted and not knowing how to handle it.

Thang and his wife have two sons, Tan and Vuong, who are in 5th and 6th grade this year. The family is in a very difficult situation. Thang's parents had 5 children, but 2 older brothers passed away, leaving the grandparents to raise 5 orphaned grandchildren. Although they are over 70 years old, they have no time to rest. It was thought that all the misfortunes would stop when the children grew up and found jobs to support themselves, but then the family of the third son, Thang, encountered a disaster...

Sister Nga lay on the bed, sometimes in so much pain, her legs jerked repeatedly, her eyes rolled back and forth, Tan and Vuong saw their mother like that and panicked, crying: "Mom, please don't die...". Brother Thang was sad, tears welling up: "I know my wife's illness is difficult to recover from, but I just wish my wife could still breathe so that the children would have a mother. Every time I see my two sons crying, my heart aches..."

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong - Chairman of Nam Trung Commune People's Committee said: "The situation of Ms. Nga and Mr. Thang's family is very pitiful. The commune government has organized visits to share some of the difficulties, the commune has also assigned the Women's Union to transfer the file to all levels and organizations to call for and help Ms. Nga's family to have more conditions for treatment. For the two children Tan and Vuong, we are also considering reducing part of the tuition fees for them when entering the new school year".
