The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requests that localities direct the police and market management forces to coordinate with veterinary forces to investigate, combat, and dismantle the practice of injecting water into livestock and livestock carcasses in their areas; and to uniformly handle all forms of penalties in accordance with the law.
On the afternoon of October 29th, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued a document requesting the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-administered cities; and the Ministries of Public Security, Industry and Trade, and Information and Communications to strengthen inspections and handle the practice of injecting water into livestock and livestock meat.
The official document states: In the past, functional agencies in some localities have conducted inspections and handled the act of injecting water into livestock and livestock meat, mainly through fines, but have not implemented it decisively and synchronously with other forms of punishment. To prevent this situation, ensure food safety and hygiene, and protect the legitimate rights of consumers, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requests the leaders of the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-administered cities to direct the People's Committees of districts and communes to organize widespread dissemination of information to organizations and individuals involved in the trading and slaughtering of animals, prohibiting them from injecting water into livestock or carcasses, or colluding with livestock traders to commit commercial fraud.
Local authorities need to direct police and market management forces to closely coordinate with veterinary forces to investigate, combat, and dismantle the practice of injecting water into livestock and livestock carcasses in their areas; and to uniformly apply penalties in accordance with the law.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Department of Industry and Trade are requested to direct their specialized inspection forces to strengthen coordination with the Police, Veterinary services, Market Management Boards, and local authorities to inspect and strictly handle the practice of injecting water into livestock and livestock meat.
At the same time, the list and addresses of slaughterhouses and livestock meat trading establishments that violate regulations should be made public so that consumers are aware and do not buy livestock meat that has been injected with water.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also requested relevant ministries and agencies to direct their functional agencies to proactively coordinate with the government and market management forces to strengthen inspections, combat, and eradicate the practice of injecting water into livestock and livestock meat; and to strictly handle violations in accordance with the law.
Strengthen the dissemination of legal regulations on food hygiene and safety; and the economic and health harms to consumers from using animal products that have been injected with water.
