11 vehicle owners were fined for violating IUU fishing regulations

(Baonghean.vn) - In August 2023, the interdisciplinary working group in Nghe An conducted two peak inspections of fishing vessels at sea.

To accelerate the effectiveness of propaganda, inspection and control to remove the EC's yellow card, the interdisciplinary working group in Nghe An has conducted regular, monthly inspections, starting from April 2023 and is currently conducting the peak inspection period in August 2023. In August, the group will conduct two rounds, the first from August 8-11 and the second from August 15-18.

During the inspection process, the interdisciplinary working group approached over 80 fishing vessels and informed hundreds of fishermen about regulations on ensuring legal procedures when exploiting and fishing at sea in accordance with the law.IUU regulationson the protection of aquatic resources.

Through inspection and understanding of the situation, the fisheries control force has drawn up a record of fines and handed over to the border guards to fine 11 cases/11 violating boat owners, with a total amount of 42.1 million VND.

Violations that are subject to penalties include: storing electric shock devices on fishing vessels; not flying the Vietnamese national flag when going out to sea to fish; crew members and workers on fishing vessels not carrying identification papers, crew members on fishing vessels not having their names in the fishing vessel crew register; writing the fishing vessel registration number incorrectly; when inspected and discovered, the fishing vessel owner illegally dumps fishing gear and nets into natural waters...

Mr. Chu Quoc Nam - Deputy Head of the Department of Fisheries said: With the determination and organization of regular and continuous inspection campaigns by the provincial interdisciplinary working group, the compliance with fishing regulations by fishermen has gradually improved compared to before. During the peak campaign to inspect compliance with fishing regulations according to IUU regulations this year, the interdisciplinary team focused on propaganda and reminders to raise awareness among fishermen. The number of fishing vessels that violated the regulations has decreased and it is hoped that this positive momentum will continue to be maintained to contribute toremove EC yellow cardin the near future./.
