(Baonghean.vn) -It's already the 28th day of the 12th lunar month, also the 29th day of the Lunar New Year, the last day of the year seems brighter to welcome the Year of the Snake. Throughout the beloved land of Nghe An, the earth and sky are slowly shedding the colors of the old year, donning a new appearance with much confidence stemming from inner strength. In the Red City, spring is also arriving with vibrant energy on the endless flower-lined streets, bustling with people and radiating joy.

Amidst the vibrant colors of flowers along familiar streets, one can see stalls selling all kinds of flowers commonly used during Tet (Lunar New Year), such as azaleas, chrysanthemums, red and white apricot blossoms, colorful primroses, and begonias… Orchids are also widely available, including Phalaenopsis, slipper orchids, Cattleya, terrestrial orchids, and wild orchids… Orchids are beautiful, elegant, and very durable, so their prices are quite high. A pot of Phalaenopsis orchids can cost from several hundred thousand to 8 million dong per pot.

The whole family went shopping for kumquat trees with yellow fruits and green leaves to decorate their homes for Tet (Lunar New Year) on Le Hong Phong Street (Vinh City).

Besides flowers, the market also features indoor ornamental plants such as ornamental orange trees, chili peppers, lemons, Japanese bamboo, and pothos... This year, plants like red radishes, lavender, petunias, imperial camellias, and imperial peonies are particularly popular, priced from 200,000 VND upwards. On Le Nin Boulevard, many Japanese peach blossom trees, grown in small pots, are also on display this year, priced from around 400,000 VND per tree. However, by the 28th day of the lunar month, the supply has dwindled. Phan Dinh Phung Street, the traditional "capital" of Tet flowers in Vinh City, is still overflowing with flowers. A variety of flowers in shades of red and purple compete to show off their beauty to welcome spring. However, due to crop failure, chrysanthemum plants are scarce and priced at 180-200,000 VND per pair, while large chrysanthemums start at 200,000 VND per pot. In front of the central park lies the "land" of yellow apricot blossoms, bathed in the warm southern sunshine. These potted apricot trees are quite expensive, even though the weather has caused these delicate flowers to bloom earlier than usual this year. Nguyen Minh Duc, a banker, haggled: "Final price, 2.7 million dong, otherwise forget it." The owner hesitated to transfer ownership. Meanwhile, at the beginning of Le Nin Boulevard, nearly 10 large, impressive peach trees are displayed. A single such ancient peach tree is priced from 30-60 million dong, and renting one during Tet alone costs 10-20 million dong.

The "ancient" peach trees along Lenin Avenue are priced from 30 to 60 million VND.

Artistic flower arrangements are quite popular.

Not only flowers, but also sugarcane and walking sticks are sold in abundance along every street.

Bananas, an indispensable fruit on the traditional five-fruit offering, are also competing to fill the flower market.

While tulips were very popular last year, this year buyers are paying less attention to them, and flower shops are importing very few. This year, customers tend to prefer small potted flowers, and the chrysanthemum, a type of flower that announces the arrival of spring, is particularly popular. This flower has many meanings because it only blooms during Tet (Vietnamese Lunar New Year), lasts a long time, and has an unusual name, making it very popular, especially among young people. Chrysanthemums come in many different colors such as purple, pink, white, and blue, and are planted in clusters in small pots, suitable for placing on tables or decorating windowsills. A flower shop owner on Phan Dinh Phung street said: "We imported 100 pots of chrysanthemums and almost sold them all in just 3 days. This year, this type of flower is the best-selling because of its low price, only 90,000 VND per pot."

This year's trend in ornamental plant sales leans towards affordable varieties that still retain traditional values. Most flower and plant shops in Vinh City are selling many types of plants with auspicious meanings for the new year, such as money tree, lucky bamboo, marigold, daffodil, azalea, and poinsettia, with prices ranging from 50,000 to 1 million VND per pot. However, according to Ms. Anh, owner of the high-end Hoai Anh art flower shop at 4B Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street (Vinh City), the demand for high-end flowers has decreased this year, likely due to the economic downturn. Ms. Anh prepared around 40-50 art flower arrangements this year, priced between 1-1.5 million VND per arrangement, but hasn't sold many yet.
