According to Mr. Ngoc Hoan, the owner of a mobile phone repair shop in Chau Thon town, at around 2:30 p.m., he was sitting in his kiosk when he was suddenly startled by a loud noise clearly heard on the tiled roof. Looking out on the street, he saw white hail pouring down.

According to him, this was the first time hail had appeared in the area, so people were a bit panicked at first. However, within 10 minutes the rain stopped, and people came out to see that there were stones bigger than a thumb lying everywhere.
