(Baonghean)The Nghe An Newspaper, issue 9383, dated April 12, 2013, published an article titled "A Rare Theft Case." Following the publication, the editorial office received a letter from Ms. Phan Thi Hong Thu, a resident of Block 1, Yen Thanh Town, stating that "all the details of the story are untrue" and requesting "a truthful correction of the details of the theft case." The Nghe An Newspaper and the author would like to discuss the matter as follows:

First of all, Nghe An Newspaper would like to affirm that the purpose of publishing the article "A Rare Theft Case" in the "Legal Stories" section is to provide a lesson for everyone on how to handle relationships in life to protect family happiness.

The article "A Rare Theft Case" is based on documents from the case file that was publicly tried by the People's Court of Yen Thanh District. In addition, the author directly met and exchanged information with representatives of the Yen Thanh District Police, the Yen Thanh District Procuratorate, the Court, and many witnesses in Yen Thanh Town to further strengthen the information for the article. Mr. Nguyen Ba Nam is the main character in the article and the defendant in the case, so the author directly met and interviewed him. The author was also provided with a letter written by Ms. Thu to her husband, two diaries, and several signed agreements and commitments from both spouses and Mr. Thai Van Binh from the period before the conflict and dispute that led to the divorce.

- Ms. Thu claims that the detail in the article, "TVB bathed outside the well...", is inaccurate because her family did not have a well before, only a closed toilet facility. Upon investigation, it was found that Ms. Thu's house did not have a well, but a circular concrete water tank, resembling a well opening, was raised to receive tap water for bathing and washing. Regarding Ms. Thu's statement that "TVB had quit his job two months before the theft," based on the evidence we have gathered, TVB continued working for Ms. Thu's family from the time he signed the contract until much later. He only temporarily stopped working for about 20 days due to a motorcycle accident. After recovering, he returned to work as a hired driver for Ms. Thu's family.

- Ms. Thu claims the article is justifying Nguyen Ba Nam's theft of property. Regarding this issue, it's easy to see that all three agencies—the police, the prosecutor's office, and the court—used the "agreement" between the couple as the basis for accusing Nguyen Ba Nam. However, the "agreement to entrust property to Ms. Thu for management" was altered from December 24, 2010 (after the theft occurred) to December 24, 2009 (before the theft occurred). The alteration lacks the authentication of both parties, making it unconvincing. Furthermore, Mr. Nam provided another original copy (not altered), signed by Ms. Thu and witnesses, clearly dated December 24, 2010. The Nghe An Newspaper and the author are continuing to investigate and clarify this matter and have not yet published it.

The Nghe An newspaper and the author are not justifying or covering up the domestic violence as you claim. On the contrary, the article clearly states, "Because of jealousy, but without convincing evidence, Nguyen Ba Nam became ill-tempered and frequently beat his wife and children, leading to the breakdown of the family."

We affirm that the purpose of the articles in the "Legal Stories" section is to provide lessons for everyone on how to behave in life's relationships. The article did not address how the court ruled on the division of property and child custody in Ms. Thu's family.

On May 14, 2013, Nghe An Newspaper issued Official Letter No. 205 CV/BNA in response to a citizen's petition sent to Ms. Phan Thi Hong Thu (Block 1, Yen Thanh Town).

On May 17, 2013, Nghe An Newspaper received another letter from Mr. Nguyen Ba Nam, a resident of Block 1, Yen Thanh Town, reflecting: The article "A Rare Theft Case" published in Nghe An Newspaper is objective, truthful, unbiased, and without ulterior motives. He requests that the newspaper continue to publish similar articles to serve as a cautionary tale for everyone, so that they never find themselves in such a situation.

Through this, Nghe An Newspaper and the author also seriously learn from experience that for works published in the "legal stories" section, it is necessary to focus on educational content that serves as a lesson for everyone, rather than necessarily including the names, ages, addresses, and detailed descriptions of the actions of the characters in the case. Once again, Nghe An Newspaper and the author sincerely thank the citizens for their feedback and exchange of ideas.
