Born with a deformity and without hands, a 23-year-old Polish man did not let fate defeat him and still pursued his dream of becoming an artist. Now, this young man can paint beautifully and skillfully without hands.

Mariusz Kedzierski, 23 years old, living in Swidnica city (Poland) has a congenital defect so he was born without hands. Although he was very disappointed about the deformity he had to bear, Mariusz did not surrender to fate.

“In the past, I used to ask myself and God many times, “why me?” But when I accepted myself, I realized that if I hadn’t been born with deformed hands, I probably wouldn’t be able to do what I do today.”

It took Mariusz a long time to learn the most suitable position to hold the pen.

Overcoming his fate and the inconvenience of life without hands, Mariusz decided to pursue his dream of becoming an artist, so he started to teach himself to draw. At first, Mariusz had a lot of difficulty in getting the most comfortable position to hold a pen, but then he started to get used to the position of holding a pen to draw. After a period of self-study, Mariusz studied at the Academy of Arts and Design in Wroclaw.

Mariusz can now draw beautiful, realistic pencil portraits. One of his portraits won him second prize at the Global Artist Awards in Vienna, Austria in 2013.

Of course, with his condition, it is not easy for Mariusz to complete the pictures. Each painting takes this young man at least 20 hours to complete, in which the most complicated painting took Mariusz up to 100 hours. In the past 7 years since pursuing his painting career, Mariusz has spent 15,000 hours painting and completed more than 700 paintings.

Recently, Mariusz has carried out a project called “Mariusz Draws” - he traveled across Europe to paint on the streets of major cities such as Berlin (Germany), Amsterdam (Netherlands), London (UK), Paris (France)...

“I want to inspire people, to show them that the limits are only in our minds,” Mariusz said. “I think my talent is the spirit of my hands. Everything comes naturally to me, so I can’t say that my life would be easier or harder without my hands.”

“I have a message for everyone, not just disabled people, to fight for your dreams and live for yourself, a great life. Do things that others are afraid to do, don’t waste your time because it is priceless,” Mariusz shared. After becoming an artist, Mariusz said he hopes to become an orator in the future to help him inspire people who are not as fortunate as he is or are lacking in self-confidence.
