(Baonghean.vn) -Unemployed but still wanting money, Mua Ba Tu agreed to join a drug trafficking ring that transported drugs from Laos to Nghe An via unofficial border crossings for a Laotian boss.
On the afternoon of August 22nd, in Vinh City, the Supreme People's Court upheld the death sentence for Mua Ba Tu (28 years old), a resident of Na Ngoi commune, Ky Son district, for the crime of illegally transporting narcotics.

According to the initial verdict, Mùa Bá Tu was born in Kỳ Sơn district. His parents died early, and he was taken in by a relative's family. Later, his family moved to Khăm Cợt district, Bolikhamsai province, Laos, to settle. There, Tu was unemployed and accepted a job with a Laotian employer. His task was to transport packages from the Laotian border to Vietnam via unofficial routes. For each successful shipment, he received a generous payment from his employer.
Upon learning that the packages smuggled from Laos into Vietnam via unofficial routes contained heroin, Tu considered quitting his job. However, fearing assassination, he continued to transport drugs and became a crucial link in the drug trafficking ring from Laos into Vietnam via the Nghe An border region.
This drug trafficking ring was targeted by the anti-drug forces and border guards of Nghe An province, who launched a special operation to combat it. On the night of July 18, 2012, Mua Ba Tu was caught red-handed by border guards while transporting 22 blocks of heroin and 12,000 synthetic drug pills into the border forest area of Thanh Thuy commune, Thanh Chuong district. Tu confessed that he was hired to transport the drugs to Vietnam by a Laotian boss for 20 million dong.
On December 26, 2012, the People's Court of Nghe An province held a first-instance trial and sentenced Mua Ba Tu to death. Considering the sentence too harsh, Tu appealed to the Supreme People's Court, requesting a reduction of the sentence, but his appeal was unsuccessful.
