Unlike many of her peers, Nhẫn was born without two arms. Her family was large, with six siblings, and Nhẫn was the fifth. Their lives depended on a few acres of farmland, leading to constant hardship and poverty. Tragedy struck when her father, Nguyễn Đình Thuyên, tragically passed away in an accident in 2007. All the burdens and difficulties fell on her mother's shoulders. Out of love and compassion for her poor mother who toiled to raise six children, Nhẫn did not succumb to adversity. Instead, she nurtured a desire to live, to become a useful member of society, to overcome her fate, and to fight her illness.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Linh, Nhan's mother, shared: "Nhan is always optimistic, cheerful, and strives her best in her studies, determined to overcome her circumstances and become independent so as not to bother others, always proactively helping her family." With that willpower and determination, Nhan worked even harder and consciously strived to improve herself. Hearing about role models who overcame adversity, such as Nguyen Ngoc Ky and Hoa Xuan Tu, and watching programs about overcoming adversity, further motivated and inspired her. Nhan persistently trained her legs, learned to write, and did all kinds of personal activities so that she could go to school, study, and play... Speaking about the training process, Nhan shared: "Initially, although it was very difficult and arduous, I didn't give up. After a short time, I learned to write and read. My legs not only learned to walk but also became more flexible and able to do everything for myself. To date, I can write with both feet, and when eating and drinking, I use whichever foot is more convenient."
With great perseverance and determination, she is a shining example for her classmates to follow at school. Throughout her 10 years of schooling, she consistently achieved a good academic record. Even though she was eligible for special consideration in the high school entrance exam, she chose not to use it, instead deciding to take the exam fairly like other candidates to accurately assess her abilities. With a score of 23 points, she passed the entrance exam to Nguyen Duy Trinh High School. At school, during recess, unable to play sports that require hands, she practices sports that use her feet, such as football, shuttlecock, and tag. She integrates well with her friends and is loved, admired, and wholeheartedly helped by them. Admiring her resilience and understanding her circumstances, her teachers always show her special affection and care. Not only during class time, but also outside of class and at home, teachers are always ready to provide dedicated support to help her grasp the lessons more thoroughly. In addition, Nguyen Duy Trinh High School has always shown concern and support, waiving all fees and prioritizing the awarding of scholarships and talent development funds to Nhan.
Nhẫn's perseverance is a beautiful example for today's young generation. And to help Nhẫn realize her dreams, in addition to the care and support of friends, teachers, neighbors, and family, she also needs more attention from philanthropists, social organizations, and businesses to support her growth and help her become a useful member of society.
