Public opinion on the proposal to consider and discipline Mr. Vo Kim Cu
Public opinion believes that the Central Inspection Committee's request for the Secretariat to consider and discipline Mr. Vo Kim Cu is a decision that is in line with the people's wishes.
Exactly one year after the marine environmental incident in the Central provinces with many economic, social and security consequences, finally, public opinion has an answer about the responsibility of the groups and individuals involved in this incident.
On April 14, with the Central Inspection Commission proposing to discipline a series of officials at the central and local levels, public opinion said that this was a popular decision, demonstrating strictness in handling violations.

According to Mr. To Ngoc Son (in Cluster 3, Phuc Tho Town, Phuc Tho District, Hanoi), the Central Inspection Committee's official request to the Secretariat to consider and discipline former Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang and former Secretary of Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee Vo Kim Cu is completely justified.
Because, for senior officials who work irresponsibly, causing serious consequences, affecting environmental resources, causing economic damage to the country, if not disciplined, will lose the people's trust in the Party.
Mr. Son also said that in the coming time, all projects that want to enrich the country need to be carefully researched to ensure both the environment and economic development and people's livelihood. From there, serious consequences like the recent Formosa incident can be avoided.
“If we do not handle it seriously, it will be difficult to deter and set an example for those who continue to work. In fact, there are many cases of degradation in the Party today, so these cases need to be exposed, brought to light for strict handling and appropriate disciplinary action to set an example,” said Mr. To Ngoc Son.
For the people of Central Vietnam - those who directly suffered the consequences of the marine environmental incident, more than anyone else, they want those responsible, whether in office or retired, to be punished for allowing the incident to occur.
Mr. Vu Viet Thu in Dien Chau, Nghe An agreed when the Central Inspection Committee concluded that the violations of Mr. Vo Kim Cu - former Secretary of Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee and Mr. Ho Anh Tuan - former Head of the Management Board of Ha Tinh Economic Zone were serious.
“As a resident of the Central region, I see that the marine environmental disaster in the Central region this year is very serious. Many people have left their hometowns to find work elsewhere. The government has clarified the violations of groups and individuals and proposed that violations be handled accordingly. This is a conclusion that the people trust and agree with," Mr. Thu expressed.
Associate Professor Dr. Bui Dinh Phong, senior lecturer at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, said that the Central Inspection Committee's approach was completely justified, because the Formosa story had been a big deal among the people. The consequences of the project had a negative impact on the environment.
Therefore, people like the former Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and the former Secretary of the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee must bear great responsibility in this matter. It is necessary to consider and take disciplinary action, which is completely in accordance with the people's wishes.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Bui Dinh Phong, through the Formosa Ha Tinh incident, we must consider this a lesson for the future when we build legal documents with common sanctions strong enough to handle similar cases. If we just follow the case, it will be very difficult to solve. Therefore, it is necessary to come up with general regulations to have a basis for handling.
“To handle this seriously, there must be stronger disciplinary measures, because according to the general spirit of Resolution 4 of the 12th Central Committee, the issue of cadres, especially strategic cadres and central management cadres - their example is very important. When they do well, it has a very positive impact on society and when they do bad things, it also has the opposite effect.
Recently, the General Secretary said: disciplining one person is not to save many people, but more importantly to save the whole regime, save the whole nation, save the Party's leadership, thereby responding to the people's trust" - Mr. Bui Dinh Phong expressed his opinion.
Over the past year, countless efforts have been made to remedy the marine environmental incident in the central provinces. The main cause of the mass fish deaths has been identified, hundreds of billions of dong have been given to the people to compensate for some of the damage they have suffered, but public opinion is still not at ease as the individuals and groups primarily responsible have not been clarified.
Therefore, with the conclusion of the Central Inspection Committee, public opinion is looking forward to further handling, and at the same time considers this a valuable lesson for leaders when signing a project directly related to the environment and people's lives./.
