National costume ideas for Hoang Thuy in Miss Universe
Cyclo, iced milk coffee, buffalo fighting... were the inspiration for Hoang Thuy's first national costume competitions.
The Miss Universe Vietnam Organizing Committee has just announced the first sketches for the "National Costume Selection for Vietnam's Representative at Miss Universe 2019" contest. This contest was launched in 2016 with impressive winning entries: Nang May (Le Hang 2016), Hon Viet (Nguyen Thi Loan 2017), Banh Mi (H'Hen Nie 2018). With the theme "Quintessence", this year's contest also attracted many designs with diverse ideas. The highlight was the entry "Cyclo" by Nguyen Quoc Viet, evoking an old Vietnam in the midst of modern life. The outfit also showed off Hoang Thuy's physical beauty on stage. |
Nguyen Dang Tung's entry "Buffalo Fighting" depicts the image of the buffalo fighting festival in Do Son (Hai Phong) with the desire to promote a national intangible cultural heritage of Vietnam. The design has a stylized detail of a buffalo head placed on the chest, combined with high-top boots and a bun with the main colors of red and yellow - the colors of the Vietnamese flag. |
"Quoc sac mau nghi" by Nguyen Van Toan has a unique beauty through familiar ethnic materials such as conical hat, ao dai... |
Phin coffee is a popular and common form of coffee making in Vietnam. That is the inspiration for Tran Nguyen Minh Duc to create the design "Phin coffee with iced milk" and introduce Vietnamese coffee drinking culture to international friends. The contest emphasized the performance element including turning on the switch and untying the skirt, creating the effect of coffee drops falling. |
From the legend "Thanh Giong", Truong Kieu Vi performed the "Giong" test with the image of bamboo as the core, combining green and yellow colors. |
"Ngoc tu sac Viet" by Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi is a miniature prism of Vietnam, from the simple ancient features through weaving looms, terraced fields, and One Pillar Pagoda in the North, to the modern, vibrant South with high-rise buildings. The organizing committee will continue to accept entries until June 15. The top 15 entries with the highest scores and votes will have the opportunity to present to the judges. |
