(Baonghean.vn) - Hundreds of residents of Hong Thinh hamlet, Thinh Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district (Nghe An province) are worried that they will have no road to travel on during the upcoming rainy season. This is because the bridge on the only road leading in and out of the hamlet has suffered damage due to the collapse of its abutments caused by last year's floods.

The Giằng Xay bridge spans the Am stream on the only road leading to Hồng Thịnh hamlet, Thịnh Thành commune, Yên Thành district.floodwatersThe history of the October 2020 incident, which caused the bridge's abutment to collapse and tilt, poses a constant risk of collapse. Yet, to this day, the bridge has not been repaired, leaving nearly 200 households, with 735 residents in Hong Thinh hamlet, worried that they will have no way to access the bridge during the upcoming rainy season.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieng, Secretary of the Hong Thinh hamlet Party branch, expressed concern that due to the risk of the bridge collapsing, the local authorities have banned cars from crossing it, causing difficulties for residents in building houses and transporting acacia wood for sale. Although the rainy season hasn't arrived yet, the cracks on the bridge are widening. Therefore, if not repaired soon, the bridge will completely collapse during the upcoming rainy season, leaving the entire hamlet without a road.

"As a locality with a large area of acacia forests, the lives of the people depend mainly on forest planting. For many months now, whenever people sell acacia wood, they are forced to transport it to the main road because cars cannot cross the bridge to get to the village, which is difficult and costly," shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieng.

However, to date, the higher authorities have not provided a solution or invested in rebuilding the bridge, despite repeated requests from the residents.

"This bridge was built decades ago; its deck is narrow and unsuitable for the current conditions. Furthermore, the two bridge abutments have collapsed, and the bridge deck is tilted significantly beyond repair. It needs to be rebuilt," said Mr. Nguyen Dinh Phong.
