Yen Thanh: Opening Ceremony of Hoang Temple Festival
(Baonghean.vn) - This morning, February 22nd, which is the 1st day of the 2nd lunar month of the Year of the Dragon, the Duc Hoang Temple Festival officially opened in Phuc Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district.
The Duc Hoang Temple, dating back 400 years, was built by the people to worship Sat Hai Dai Vuong Hoang Ta Thon – a figure who played a key role in repelling the Mongol invaders, bringing peace and prosperity to the country. A general known for his courage, intelligence, and strategic brilliance, he rendered great service to the people and the nation. After his death, the imperial court established temples in many places, including the Duc Hoang Temple in Phuc Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district. In 1998, the Duc Hoang Temple was recognized by the State as a National Historical and Cultural Monument.

On the 30th and 1st of the 2nd lunar month each year, the people of Yen Thanh district organize a festival to commemorate the contributions of Hoang Ta Thon. The festival features many rich and diverse cultural and sporting activities, reflecting the national identity, such as boat racing, tug-of-war, stick pushing, human chess, cockfighting, and traditional wrestling. Along with folk games, visitors can enjoy traditional folk art forms such as Ke Gam opera, puppet shows, and Ca Tru singing.
