Yen Thanh strengthens measures to prevent and fight forest fires.

(Baonghean.vn) -Yen Thanh district has over 5,500 hectares of protective forest, including over 1,000 hectares of pine forest, posing a very high risk of forest fires during the hot season. Yen Thanh has strengthened its forest fire prevention and control efforts to minimize the risk of forest fires.

Ms. Van Loc from Dap Dam hamlet, Xuan Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, shared: "My family is contracted to protect 3 hectares of pine forest. For over a month now, we've mobilized 4 laborers to clear the undergrowth and completed 2.5 hectares. In about 5 more days, we'll clear the remaining area. In the Dap Dam area, near Gam Mountain (where Gam Pagoda is currently under construction), many households are helping each other clear undergrowth and create firebreaks, determined to prevent forest fires. The Yen Thanh district forest protection unit has coordinated with the Forest Protection Management Board and local authorities to patrol and control sources of fire entering the forest. They are updating weather conditions and forest fire risk levels to specialized departments, forest protection stations, and households participating in the contract to proactively prevent and control forest fires."

Thinning hybrid acacia trees and clearing undergrowth are measures to reduce forest fires in Xuan Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district.

Mr. Phan Tien Si, Head of the Yen Thanh Protective Forest Management Board, said: To date, the Yen Thanh Protective Forest Management Board has coordinated with households participating in contracted forest clearing to clear over 700 hectares of pine and acacia forests, and repaired 3 fire watchtowers. The Board has allocated over 200 million VND to repair and build over 30 km of firebreaks with a width of 10-12 m. In addition, they have purchased 20 bundles of bamboo fire-extinguishing brooms, 20 water containers, 27 sets of protective clothing, 27 pairs of gaiters, etc. Previously, the Yen Thanh District Forest Protection Unit had developed operational regulations and forest protection plans for the communes in the area. They also established coordination regulations between forest owners and the Forest Protection force, local authorities, and the Army and Police forces in the area; developed community agreements on forest fire prevention and control; and signed commitments on forest fire prevention and control.
