Yen Thanh builds Trang Ke honey brand

(Baonghean.vn) - My Thanh (Yen Thanh) is a mountainous commune.there are many typesAgricultural products, in which Trang Ke honey is completing procedures to grant brand certification.

With more than 10 years of specializing in raising and supplying honey bees, Mr. Ho Sy Dien in hamlet 12, My Thanh commune has mastered beekeeping techniques.

He said: Beekeeping is highly effective because it does not require land area, has low initial investment costs and especially requires little care. Currently, his family has 20 beehives, earning a profit of 70 - 80 million VND/year.

To ensure the quality of honey, his family only harvests from the 15th day of the first lunar month to the 15th day of the sixth lunar month, once a month according to a strict process.

For Mr. Nguyen Vinh Dieu in hamlet 15, coming to the beekeeping profession, he has also experienced many ups and downs. Starting with a few dozen bee colonies initially purchased, but due to lack of experience and unstable output, the bees were lost and he suffered losses.

After that, he participated in a training course on beekeeping techniques organized by the Commune Farmers' Association, and gained practical experience. Mr. Dieu re-planned 1 hectare of garden, planted fruit trees to create shade, and applied effective beekeeping science and technology.

Up to now, Mr. Dieu has had more than 30 beehives. The products harvested are purchased and consumed by the Farmers' Association and the Agricultural Cooperative, so the revenue reaches 150 - 200 million VND/year.

Taking advantage of the mountainous terrain, large forest cover, and rich wild flowers, over the past 3 years, over 160 farming households in My Thanh commune have boldly borrowed capital to invest in building barns, buying bee breeds, and learning experience and care techniques to develop the profession.

According to the households' calculations, on average, 1 beehive can harvest about 10 bottles of honey, each year can collect honey 4-5 times, with an average selling price of 120-150 thousand VND/bottle, each household can earn from 150-200 million VND/year. From a few hundred initial beehives, up to now, My Thanh commune has over 1,000 honey beehives, honey output reaches over 4.5 tons/year, bringing a huge source of profit to the people here.

Currently, the Farmers' Association, Agricultural Cooperatives, together with local authorities, coordinate with the Department of Science and Technology of Nghe An to organize a workshop on brand building, introducing packaging designs, logos, and domain names.

At the same time, send samples for testing to complete the copyright registration procedure and grant product trademark certification.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nam - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of My Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh said: "While waiting for the Intellectual Property Office to recognize the Trang Ke honey brand product, we will continue to coordinate with the Agricultural Cooperative to collect and consume honey products for farmers. The product has a logo and label; and we are coordinating with the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management to attach a traceability stamp".

Currently, Trang Ke honey is being selected to participate in the North Central Region Industry and Trade Fair to introduce green products of the cooperative and craft village areas of Nghe An 2017. Thereby, introducing and promoting Trang Ke honey products to consumers.

Building the Trang Ke honey brand will gradually change people's production thinking, forming a production chain that ensures food safety standards and unique agricultural products of Yen Thanh, gradually improving people's lives and income.
