Request to strengthen the Trade Union organization of Thanh An Hospital - Saigon

(Baonghean.vn) - According to the Chairwoman of the Health Sector Trade Union, Ms. Vo Thi Hang: "Thanh An - Saigon Hospital still has a trade union organization, still has members of the Executive Committee... but the trade union is no longer operating" so it must request the consolidation of the trade union organization.

As someone who was there early to grasp the situation, Ms. Vo Thi Hang - Chairwoman of the Health Sector Union commented: "The incident that happened at Thanh An Hospital - Saigon is extremely regrettable, not only affecting the quality of professional activities but also damaging the image of the hospital".

According to Ms. Vo Thi Hang, since Thanh An - Saigon Hospital started operating, the unit's Trade Union was also established. After a long time, the hospital's Trade Union activities were quite good, all policies on salary and social insurance for employees were guaranteed; it only declined in the past five years, when the hospital's leadership was frequently changed and the Trade Union Chairman transferred to work at another unit.

“In form, there is still a Trade Union organization here, there are still Executive Committee members… but, it is no longer active” - Chairwoman of the Health Sector Trade Union Vo Thi Hang said.

It is known that since the end of 2015, the Health Sector Trade Union has worked with the hospital leadership to propose strengthening the Trade Union organization. The hospital leadership agreed and requested the Health Sector Trade Union to have specific directions for them to work with the Board of Directors. However, these plans had not been implemented when the "incident" occurred on August 1.

Ms. Vo Thi Hang affirmed: “If the Union organization here is still maintained, the matter will be resolved in a different direction. The recent incident is truly a valuable lesson for Thanh An Hospital - Saigon. In the near future, the Health Sector Union will issue a document requesting to work directly with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the hospital so that they can take responsibility for strengthening the Union organization…”.

Previously, on August 1 and 2, due to unpaid wages, the staff, doctors and nurses of Thanh An General Hospital - Saigon all quit their jobs, the hospital's operations were almost completely suspended. On the afternoon of August 2, the hospital's leaders met with the staff, promised to pay 1 month's wages and gave a roadmap for paying the unpaid wages, the staff returned to work.

This hospital is also currently under special supervision by the Department of Health and Social Insurance.
