(Baonghean.vn) – The State Bank of Vietnam, Nghe An branch, has just issued công văn (official document) No. 10/NGA-TTTKQ on promoting “the rational and economical use of small-denomination banknotes during the Lunar New Year of Dinh Dau 2017”.

The official document states: In recent years, the State Bank of Vietnam has implemented a policy of restricting the use of small-denomination banknotes in festivals and religious activities. This policy has contributed to improving civilized practices in cultural, festival, and religious activities, saving costs for the State, and has been highly appreciated by the public.

In fact, a survey conducted by the State Bank of Vietnam in Nghe An province shows that the use of small-denomination banknotes by people at historical sites, temples, pagodas, and festivals in Nghe An province has decreased significantly compared to previous years, and the practice of exchanging money for profit has been somewhat rectified.

The above results were achieved thanks in large part to the contributions of news agencies and media outlets in the province in promoting the rational, appropriate, and economical use of small-denomination banknotes during the Lunar New Year. However, to ensure that civilized practices are established, traditional cultural identity is preserved, and the image of Vietnamese currency is protected while saving costs for society, it requires active coordination from relevant agencies to continue implementing these measures vigorously in the future.

This policy is widely publicized through the media to raise public awareness about the proper, economical, and culturally appropriate use of small-denomination banknotes in temples, pagodas, and festivals during the Lunar New Year of the Rooster 2017. Illegal trading of small-denomination banknotes, which negatively impacts currency circulation, culture, and the image of Vietnamese currency, is strictly prohibited.
