According to information from the Department of Testing and Quality Assessment of the Ministry of Education and Training, the total number of applications for university and college entrance exams this year is more than 1.4 million, a decrease of 300,000 applications compared to 2013.

In 2013, the number of applications for university and college entrance exams was 1.7 million. This year, it has decreased to 1.4 million applications. Meanwhile, the total enrollment target for university and college in 2014 is about 600,000.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the decrease in the number of applications for university and college entrance exams this year is a positive sign, proving that the counseling and streaming of high school students in many localities has been quite good. Candidates and parents have also determined their abilities to choose the school to take the exam, and no longer submit many "fake" applications.

It is known that in 2013 enrollment, the total number of candidates admitted to university and college was 498,732 compared to the target of 616,390.

Compared to the 2013 enrollment, the 2014 enrollment has many changes, as the Ministry of Education and Training has organized the determination of criteria to ensure the quality of university and college admissions in 2014. Specifically, for schools and majors that do not specify the main exam subjects, the criteria to ensure the quality of admission are the basic admission scores (total score of 3 exam subjects without multiplying the coefficient) for each exam block.

Based on the university and college entrance exam results of candidates nationwide, the Council determines the conditions to ensure input quality and proposes that the Minister of Education and Training consider announcing a number of levels (3 or 4 levels) of basic admission scores for each exam group, including the minimum score for university admission and the minimum score for college admission.

For schools and majors that specify the main exam subjects, the criteria to ensure input quality is the admission standard score taking into account the main subject coefficient (total score of 3 exam subjects, including 1 main exam subject multiplied by coefficient 2) into the school or into each major of the school.

The principle for determining the admission benchmark in this case is that the average value of the admission benchmark, taking into account the coefficient of the main subject, must not be lower than the average value of the basic admission score for university or college announced by the Ministry and selected by the school (these average scores are rounded to 2 decimal places).

In addition, many non-public universities and colleges organize admissions according to their own plans.
