At the exact moment of New Year's Eve, a giant crystal ball on the No. 1 building in Times Square will slowly fall to the ground in a countdown to the exact moment of the transition from the old year to the new year.

The traditional crystal ball for New Year's Eve 2014, the final pieces are being completed. 2688 triangular crystal pieces are assembled to create a ball that weighs more than 5 tons. 32,000 LED lights will surround the ball to create more than 16 million different colors. And the designers named it the Gift of Dreams.
“New Year’s Eve is all about making a better year. For ourselves and for the world. That’s why people come to Times Square despite the cold weather to dream of happiness,” said Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance.

“This is my first time seeing this event,” said Ms. Balerieal, an Argentine tourist. “It will definitely be great.”

The final crystal for the ball contains billions of dreams fulfilled around the world. Each year, the Organizing Committee will choose a person to design this special crystal. This year, it is a 12-year-old girl with a serious illness who is in the hospital. The crystal carries her idea and dream of roses.
