Premier League clubs spent a record £630m in the summer transfer window, surpassing the previous record of £500m set in 2008, according to Deloitte's sports business group.
On the last day of the transfer window (September 2), the London "Gunners" promptly and successfully recruited midfielder Mesut Oezil from Real Madrid with a transfer fee of 42.5 million pounds.

With this transfer fee, Oezil became the most expensive rookie in Arsenal's history (nearly 3 times the price of Andrei Arshavin in 2008), the third most expensive in Premier League history, after Fernando Torres (from Liverpool to Chelsea in 2011 for 50 million pounds) and Carlos Tevez (to Man City for 45 million pounds).
Meanwhile, Manchester United also managed to sign Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini from Everton for £27.5m on deadline day despite pursuing the player throughout the summer transfer window.
Mr. Dan Jones, an expert from Deloitte, said that this summer's transfer window has set two new records for the Premier League: total spending by clubs and a record high transfer fee for a player.
The record transfer fee belongs to Welsh star Gareth Bale. This player has officially moved from Tottenham Hotspurs to Real Madrid with a transfer fee of up to 85 million pounds. This is also the most expensive contract in the history of world football.
According to expert Alex Thorpe of Deloitte, while clubs playing in European professional football leagues have to depend on selling players to have money to buy new players, Premier League clubs with financial potential always spend heavily and constantly increase the gap with these clubs.
Although not as big as the Premier League, clubs in Spain's La Liga and Italy's Serie A spent £335m in the summer, followed by France's Ligue 1 with £315m and Germany's Bundesliga, with a total spending of £230m./.
