10 years in prison for child molestation
(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of March 14, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened the first instance criminal trial of a child rape case.
Hearing the court sentence him to 10 years in prison, Lang Van Tan (born in 1962, residing in Khe Bang, Chau Hanh, Quy Chau) was surprised, realizing that his act of having sexual intercourse with a child was extremely serious. His victim, Lu Thi H, was still innocent. In the perception of a 6-year-old child, he did not understand why his relative, whom he still called brother, had to stand in a wooden frame, his head drooping from head to toe, unlike usual.
Tan and the victim’s family were relatives on the mother’s side, so even though Tan was older than H’s parents, the child still called him “brother”. The two families were close to each other, “even sharing a field to plow together”, so they never thought that one day they would end up in court together.
The incident happened at around 7pm on September 3, 2012, when leaving Mrs. Lo Thi Cuong's house, Lang Van Tan met Lu Thi H. (born 2006, living in the same village) looking for her mother. Seeing H alone, Tan had a dark intention and took H. to his house to have sexual intercourse with her. After having sexual intercourse with H., Lang Van Tan gave her 7,000 VND and told her not to tell anyone.
Ms. Mai came home from work and did not see her daughter, so she immediately went to look for her and found her at Tan's house. When she brought her daughter home, she discovered that H had many strange signs. Ms. Mai asked her and she told her the whole story. Ms. Mai took her daughter to the investigation agency of Quy Chau district to report and write a complaint against Tan's behavior. On September 4, 2012, Lang Van Tan brought a bottle of wine and a chicken to Ms. Mai's house to pray for her and apologize to the victim's family; At the same time, he compensated H with 500,000 VND. On September 10, 2012, Lang Van Tan voluntarily went to the investigation agency of Quy Chau district police to surrender and confess his crime.

Justifying his actions, before the trial, Lang Van Tan said that he did not understand that it was a violation of the law. However, looking at Tan's face that had begun to have wrinkles and seeing the immature, naive appearance of little H, no one attending the trial was not indignant. As for Ms. Mai's family, although very dissatisfied with Tan's actions, because they are siblings and neighbors, she wrote a petition to reduce Tan's sentence and did not ask the defendant to pay civil compensation.
Realizing that Lang Van Tan's sexual intercourse with H. had enough elements to constitute child rape, however, the defendant surrendered, confessed honestly, showed remorse and voluntarily visited and cared for the victim after the incident, the panel sentenced Tan to 10 years in prison. At the same time, the defendant must compensate the victim 8 million VND.
The trial ended, the criminal had to pay for his crime, and H's family could leave with a smile because the forensic examination report concluded that H's daughter's honor was not harmed. The only regret is that if Tan had been more alert in this incident, or perhaps if Tan had been properly educated, knowledgeable, aware, or properly educated about the law, the incident would not have gone as far as it did.
