11 foods you should absolutely never put in the microwave.

Microwave ovens are a very popular household appliance due to their convenience. However, not all types of food can be cooked in this device.

1. Eggs

When you put an egg in the microwave, you'll create an explosion because the temperature of the liquid inside the egg rises too high, and the hot gas has nowhere to escape, so the egg will explode.

If you still want to use a microwave to cook eggs, before microwaving, you can crack the egg, place it in a heat-resistant container, prick the yolk with a fork to allow steam to escape, and then cover it with microwave-safe plastic wrap.

2. Fruit

You shouldn't put fruit in the microwave because the high temperature will cause the fruit to lose essential nutrients. In particular, you shouldn't microwave grapes, whether fresh or dried, because they will explode and release plasma gas, damaging the microwave.

3. Carrots

Carrots contain iron, magnesium, and selenium. Therefore, if you put carrots in the microwave, they will quickly turn into flames of various colors (green, red, yellow) and damage the microwave.

4. Chili peppers

Chili peppers are also not ideal for microwaving. The high temperatures in a microwave will cause the compound capsaicin that creates the spiciness to evaporate and escape, irritating your eyes and throat upon contact, and even causing tearing, which is very uncomfortable.

5. Frozen foods

Microwave cooking frozen food is a bad idea; it wastes time and isn't efficient. Therefore, you should choose to thaw frozen food by soaking it in salt water, then microwave it for cooking.

6. Special types of vegetables

Some vegetables, such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and zucchini, should not be microwaved because they will explode. You can use chopsticks or a fork to poke several holes in the vegetable before putting it in the microwave.

7. Bread

Microwaves make bread dry and hard, making it difficult to swallow. The dough quickly loses its structure, resulting in an unpleasant taste. Therefore, if you want to reheat bread, it's best to use a conventional oven.

8. Water

Never even think about boiling water in a microwave oven, as this is extremely dangerous. While microwaves heat water, they don't create bubbles during the heating process. Therefore, when you remove the water from the microwave, the bubbles that form will burst and could splash into your eyes, causing burns.

If you still intend to boil water in the microwave, you can place a wooden stirring stick in the cup of water, and once the water has boiled, open the microwave door, let it sit for a while, and then remove the cup of water.

9. Hard-shelled animals

When you microwave shellfish like shrimp, crab, and clams, they will develop a rubbery smell. Once cooked, the dish will lose its nutritional value and delicious seafood flavor.

10. Tomato sauce

While not as dangerous as other foods, hot tomato sauce can easily splatter and stain the microwave. To avoid this, you can cover the dish containing the sauce with wax paper to keep the microwave clean.

11. Wine and Champagne

You should not put drinks like wine or champagne in the microwave because they can easily explode, damage the microwave, and burn the food.
