May 12, 2015 11:06

At around 2:20 am this morning, May 12, 2015, the AAG submarine cable break was fixed. Currently, the Internet connection between Vietnam and the world via the AAG submarine cable has returned to normal.

The above information has just been confirmed by a representative of CMC Telecom. According to this representative, since last night, May 11, 2015, the repair team has made the last weld and at about 2:20 am on May 12, the troubleshooting work on the AAG submarine cable line was completed.

Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, General Director of FPT Telecom, said that since yesterday afternoon, the AAG cable line has been welded and restored at about 2:20 am. "Although the AAG submarine cable line has been welded and restored, the technical department still has to carry out steps such as re-burying the cable. After burying the cable, the troubleshooting process will be completed," said Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa. FPT Telecom said that this morning, customers can feel the Internet speed returning to normal operation.

Mr. Lam Quoc Cuong, Director of VTI, said that traffic through the AAG submarine cable has been restored. However, the technical department is still completing the steps after welding the cable. However, by this morning, VNPT customers can feel that the Internet service has returned to normal.

Thus, the repair work of the AAG submarine cable was completed one day later than the original schedule of 7:00 p.m. on May 10, 2015.

Previously, as ICTnews reported, at 5:27 a.m. on April 23, 2015, the AAG international submarine cable had a problem in the segment from Vung Tau (Vietnam) to Hong Kong and Singapore, about 300 km from the coast of Vung Tau. This problem mainly affected the speed of Internet transmission between Vietnam and the world.

This is the second time the AAG international submarine cable has had a problem in 2015, affecting the traffic of Internet service providers in Vietnam operating on the cable. Communication and information exchange between customers from Vietnam to other countries such as web services, email, voice, video, etc. are slowed down because the traffic is transferred to backup routes and may cause congestion. However, domestic transactions and information exchanges are not affected.

According to statistics from ISPs, since it was officially put into operation in November 2009 until now, the AAG submarine cable has been broken and had problems many times, greatly affecting the service provision of network operators to customers.

For example, in 2011, the AAG submarine cable had four incidents or had to be maintained, affecting the Internet connection speed of users. In August 2012, the AAG cable broke again and the repair work for this cable break lasted nearly a month. Then, on August 13 and December 20, 2013, the AAG submarine cable broke at locations 6.2 km and 278 km away from the Vung Tau landing station, respectively. And in 2014, the AAG cable broke twice, in July and September. The most recent time the AAG cable broke was on January 5, 2015. The cable operator had to spend three weeks to fix the problem.
