According to the indictment of the Provincial Procuracy, on September 12, 2012, Vi Dinh Huong and his brother Vi Dinh Than (residing in Bong village, Lang Khe commune, Con Cuong) along with Ha Van Man, Vi Van Duc and Ngan Van Lan (residing in Khe Lo village, Mon Son commune, Con Cuong) went to Khe Coong area (Mon Son commune) to find bamboo shoots and trap birds. At night, the group stayed at Ngan Van Lan's shack and drank alcohol. During the drinking, a conflict arose between Ngan Van Lan and Vi Dinh Huong, so Lan took a round wooden stick and hit Huong on the head, causing the victim to fracture his skull and die later.

Faced with undeniable evidence, Ngan Van Lan bowed her head and admitted her guilt. The court sentenced Ngan Van Lan to 12 years in prison, and the two families agreed on compensation.
