13 years in prison for a greedy woman

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 15, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to try the case of illegal drug trafficking against Lo Thi Kim (born in 1975, residing in Xieng My commune, Tuong Duong).

According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, Lo Thi Kim herself was addicted to heroin. On the evening of June 8, 2014, Kim was at home when a man came to visit, introducing himself as Thanh, from Quy Hop. The man named Thanh proposed to buy and sell heroin to Kim. At that time, Kim only had 2 taels of heroin to use (Kim had just bought this amount of heroin for 4 million VND), Thanh asked Kim to find and buy a heroin tree for her, Kim agreed.

Kim called a man named Thoong (unknown background, specific address) to ask if he had heroin to sell. Thoong said he only had 8.4 taels, Kim told Thoong to bring it, and combine it with Kim's 2 taels of heroin to make 1 tree to sell to Thanh. After having enough 1 tree of heroin, Kim called Thanh and agreed on a price of 15 million VND/tree, and scheduled delivery on June 9, 2014. With the 2 taels contributed, Kim would receive 5 million VND, Thoong would receive 7 million VND.

At around 11pm on June 9, Kim and Thoong arrived at the delivery location they had arranged with Thanh and met Thanh and another man. While Kim was making a transaction with the strange man, they were discovered and arrested by the police. Taking advantage of the chaos, Thoong, Thanh and the strange man escaped.

At the trial, Lo Thi Kim confessed to all her crimes. Considering that the defendant is an ethnic minority, has limited legal awareness, committed a crime for the first time, showed remorse and confessed honestly, the panel sentenced Lo Thi Kim to 13 years in prison.
