13 years in prison for construction worker who killed someone

(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of October 17, the Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Le Van Hong (born 1965), residing in Nghi Van commune, Nghi Loc, for murder.

According to the indictment, Le Van Hong and Nguyen Ngoc Hoa (born in 1967) worked for a construction team. On the morning of July 9, 2016, Mr. Hong was late for work, so Hoa had an opinion and told Mr. Hong to “go home”. The two sides argued, exchanged words and challenged each other, but were advised by their co-workers to stop them.

Hearing Hoa swearing, Hong, who had a pry bar in his hand, threw it at Hoa, causing the steel bar to hit the victim's left chest. After committing the crime, Hong left.

Mr. Hoa was taken to the emergency room but due to severe injuries (perforated lung, acute blood loss), he died later.

After Mr. Hoa died, Le Van Hong turned himself in to the investigation agency and confessed his crime.

At the trial, Le Van Hong confessed to his crime and said that he was so angry because Hoa cursed him that he could not control himself. After the incident, the defendant’s family compensated the victim more than 30 million VND.

Considering the case in its entirety, taking into account aggravating and mitigating circumstances (surrendering, honest confession, being awarded a medal during his international duty in Cambodia, etc.), the panel sentenced Le Van Hong to 13 years in prison. In addition, the defendant must compensate the victim’s family 72.6 million VND for mental damage and funeral expenses, and provide monthly support for Mr. Hoa’s father 300,000 VND.
