On the morning of August 24, at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam (Hanoi), more than 130 students and postgraduates from the North received Vallet scholarships worth 12 million VND each. This is a gift of great material value and at the same time encourages and motivates the students' learning spirit.

The Vallet Scholarship, sponsored by Professor Odon Vallet since 2001, has awarded more than 17,000 scholarships worth VND80 billion to university and high school students nationwide. In the 2013-2014 school year, the scholarship continued to award 2,188 scholarships, including 1,645 scholarships for students and 543 scholarships for students and young researchers in Vietnam with a total amount of VND18 billion 843 million. Each scholarship awarded to students is worth VND7.5 million, and each scholarship awarded to students and young researchers is worth VND12 million.

Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan speaks at the scholarship award ceremony.

Speaking at the scholarship awarding ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan affirmed: “Vietnamese people have a saying “A piece of food when hungry is worth a whole package when full” so the Vallet scholarship is very meaningful in terms of material and sentiment because it includes the trust and confidence of professors and many international friends in the young generation and human resources of Vietnam”.

In addition, the Minister also reminded the young generation, especially those who received Vallet scholarships today: "I hope that you will be fully aware of the material weight, especially the weight of affection, that previous scientists have given you, so that you can try harder in your studies and scientific research."

During the ceremony, the Minister also presented the Medal for the Cause of Education to Professor Odon Vallet, the most prestigious award in the industry for individuals who have made great contributions to the development of Vietnam's education.

At the same time, the Minister also expressed his deep gratitude to Professor Le Kim Ngoc - University of Paris, Professor Tran Thanh Van - President of the Rencontres du Vietnam and Professor Nguyen Van Hieu - former President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. These are people who have made great contributions in connecting, letting scientists around the world know about Vietnam and have direct help for the young generation of the country.

This year's scholarship award ceremony also had the presence of Professor Sheldon Glashow - Nobel Prize winner in Physics in 1979 and Professor David J. Gross - Nobel Prize winner in Physics in 2004. The presence of the two professors is of great significance as a source of encouragement and motivation for the young generation of Vietnam to continue to strive harder in their studies and research.

Sharing with PV Dan Tri, Professor Odon Vallet said: “President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap have repeatedly talked about developing the country’s education career and this is also my goal.” At the same time, Professor Odon Vallet also highly appreciated the quality of education of the young generation of Vietnam and expressed his joy when knowing that many students who received scholarships have had very good development in their future work.

Tomorrow morning, Odon Vallet scholarships continue to be awarded to high school students in the Northern provinces.
