14 years in prison for human trafficking couple

(Baonghean) - On the morning of June 23, the People's Court of Nghe An province brought the case of Oc Thi Nguyen (born in 1994, residing in Bao Thang commune, Ky Son district) and Hoang Van Xuan (born in 1990, residing in Ninh Nhai commune, Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province) who committed the crime of child trafficking to public trial.

Through questioning in court, the criminal acts of Nguyen and Xuan were clarified: On December 26, 2013, Nguyen and Xuan returned from Tuyen Quang to Ky Son district to visit Nguyen's family and attend a wedding together. Suddenly remembering the order from a woman named Tien in China discussing "business", Nguyen would be paid 50 million VND if he could bring a person to China to sell to Tien, on January 4, 2014, Nguyen and Xuan met Cut Thi M. (born 2000, residing in Xao Va village, Bao Thang commune) and asked M. if she wanted to go to China? If she went, she would give her 50 million VND, M. agreed. After discussing, Xuan and Nguyen agreed to take M. to China to sell, after taking M. to National Highway 7 to catch a bus to Vinh to Quang Ninh to sell to China, both were arrested by the people and the police of Huu Kiem commune, Ky Son.

At court, Nguyen and Xuan confessed honestly and regretted their crimes. Realizing that the defendants were all ethnic minorities with limited cognitive abilities, the panel sentenced Oc Thi Nguyen to 8 years in prison and Hoang Van Xuan to 6 years in prison for child trafficking.
