14 people died due to floods
(Baonghean.vn) -The prolonged rains caused by storm No. 8 caused severe damage, with 14 people dead, many houses collapsed, and rice, crops, livestock and poultry swept away.
Due to the impact of storm No. 8, Nghe An experienced heavy to very heavy rain from September 17 to 21, 2013. The total rainfall from September 17 to 1:00 p.m. on September 21, 2013 was generally from 200 to 390mm; specifically at some locations as follows: Quy Hop 279mm, Nghia Khanh 374mm, Con Cuong 388.6mm, Do Luong 309mm, Yen Thuong 393mm, Nam Dan 336mm, Vinh 226mm, Quynh Luu 300mm and Cua Hoi 195mm. Heavy rain lasting for many days caused floods, isolated many localities, cut off many roads, and forced students to stay home from school.

According to statistics,up to now,14 people died after being swept away by floodwaters. In addition to the 5 people swept away with the fateful car in Khe Ang, Nghia Hong commune, 3 students in Yen Thanh district, 1 student in Thanh Chuong, 1 student in Nghi Loc, 1 person in Quy Hop district, 3 new victims were recorded: Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan (39 years old) in hamlet 12, Thanh Ha commune (Thanh Chuong), who had an accident on the afternoon of September 22, Ms. Loan was riding a motorbike through a flooded section on the inter-commune road when she was swept away by the water; Mr. Hoang Duc Khang in hamlet 9B, Tung village, Hung Trung commune, Hung Nguyen district, fell into a pond and drowned on the night of September 22, 2013 and a child under 2 years old, Dao Van Hoa in hamlet Hai Dao, Nghia Loc commune, Nghia Dan district, drowned in a stream near his house.

The floods caused 4 houses to collapse, 962 houses to be flooded, 2 schools and 15 classrooms to be affected, 1,491.6 hectares of rice were damaged, of which 70% of the area was lost, along with 5,108.5 hectares of corn and other crops, 549.7 hectares of industrial crops and perennial fruit trees were damaged, 8.45 hectares of cultivated land were eroded, more than 495 hectares of aquaculture were lost, nearly 3,400 cattle, poultry, buffaloes and cows were killed by the water, etc. Many national and provincial highways were cut off, flooded and eroded due to the floods.
In addition, according to the report of the Provincial Border Guard Command, Thanh Dat 06 ship on its way to China had an accident at 9:00 a.m. on September 19, 2013, at coordinates 19043'34” North latitude, 108032'94” East longitude due to strong gusts of wind, level 8, level 9 waves caused the bow of the ship to be damaged, there was a phenomenon of sinking at the bow, the ship could not be repaired. When the Thanh Dat 06 ship was in danger of sinking, the crew members on board jumped off the ship and were rescued by the Hai Phuong - Hai Phong ship and brought to Hainan Island, China. Previously, on the night of September 18, 2013, the fishing boat of Mr. Nguyen Canh Quang, with license plate 0037TS, was anchored at Nam Giang wharf, Nghi Hai ward, Cua Lo town, was sunk by waves, and was salvaged on September 20, 2013.
Currently, flood water on rivers is receding, people are urgently overcoming the consequences, gradually stabilizing their lives.
