16 years in prison for man who killed brother with flintlock gun
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 8, the Provincial People's Court opened the first instance criminal trial of the murder case against Lo Thanh Ba (born in 1994, residing in Tam Quang commune, Tuong Duong). The victim was Lo Van Ty - the defendant's biological brother.
According to the investigation agency, at around 11pm on June 27, 2014, Lo Thanh Ba returned home after drinking quite a lot of alcohol at an acquaintance's house. Ba asked his father, Mr. Lo Dinh Quang, to borrow his motorbike to go out, but Mr. Quang refused. Angry, Lo Thanh Ba cursed and challenged Mr. Quang and smashed things in the house. Being scolded by his father for being "rude", Ba grabbed Mr. Quang's neck and punched him in the mouth and back. Seeing his younger brother beating his father, Lo Van Ty ran over and hugged Ba and pulled him away. Lo Thanh Ba ran down to the kitchen to get a flintlock gun and went upstairs. Seeing Lo Van Ty standing in front of the kitchen door and continuing to advise Ba not to go out anymore, Ba raised his gun, aimed it straight at his brother's chest and pulled the trigger. Being shot in the left chest, his lung was punctured, and he suffered acute blood loss, causing Lo Van Ty to die on the spot. After committing the crime, Lo Thanh Ba was taken by his family to the police station to surrender.

Mr. Lo Dinh Quang, the legal representative of the victim, also asked for a lighter sentence for Ba and did not require Ba to compensate or provide child support for Mr. Ty's two children.
After comprehensively reviewing the evidence and weighing aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel sentenced Lo Thanh Ba to 16 years in prison.
