17 days and nights of pursuit and "brain-weighing" attack on the subject who murdered a couple in Hung Yen

* The fateful night of the couple

On the night of August 16 and early morning of August 17, at house number 6, Linh Dai street, Nam Tien quarter, Hong Chau ward, Hung Yen city, a particularly serious crime occurred.

The victim, Mr. Dang Van Truong, 41 years old, was murdered right at the door of the bedroom on the first floor, and his wife, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, 40 years old, collapsed and died right on the bed. Both had many wounds on their bodies.

According to Son, the victim’s son, he slept in the living room outside. When he discovered the incident and shouted “Thief! Thief!”, the suspect ran out the side door, knocking over his grandfather who had come running from the house below.

When the case happened, it shocked public opinion. Because Hung Yen is a peaceful province, many people went to bed without locking their doors.

Immediately after the incident, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong was present in Hung Yen province twice, going down to the crime scene to direct the investigation and solving the case.

At the scene, the police discovered that the front door of the house was locked, but the gate was very low, easy to jump over to get into the inner yard, the side door of the house had no latch or bolt, through this door directly into the bedroom door of Mr. Truong and his wife.

According to the investigation results, the suspect's identifying characteristics in the case: Young man about 20 to 35 years old; height 1.65m to 1.73m; wearing a baseball cap; wearing size 40 - 41 shoes (Vietnamese size) Adidas brand, dark purple, each side of the shoe has three white stripes, the shoe collar has a white border around it; wearing gray ankle socks; wearing long pants and a dark shirt.

From the collected documents and evidence, the police determined that this was a case of burglary and theft. When discovered, the suspect used a weapon to kill a couple...

The Provincial Police Department's investigation team was established with Colonel Pham The Tung - Deputy Director, Head of the Investigation Police Department of Hung Yen Provincial Police as Head of the team.

Units: Criminal Police Department, Hung Yen City Police, Criminal Techniques Department, Records Department, Administrative Police Department of Social Order were mobilized to participate. 17 days and nights, through 2 holidays (August 19 and September 2), but the officers and soldiers participating in the project did not have a minute of rest.

17 days and nights, also the same amount of time, the working group of Department 6, Criminal Police Department, led by Lieutenant Colonel To Cao Lanh - Head of Department, was present in Hung Yen province, coordinating with local police to solve the case.

Colonel Tran Ngoc Ha - Director of the Criminal Police Department was also present in Hung Yen many times. At the exact time of the incident, he, along with Lieutenant Colonel Doan Van Tien - Deputy Head in charge of the Criminal Police Department of Hung Yen Provincial Police and the working group, went to the scene to review and re-evaluate the exact time, space, and context around the scene when the incident occurred.

Based on the assessment of the case, the working groups have conducted a review of all drug addicts and suspects involved in theft. Through collecting documents, the investigation team determined that a theft with similar methods had occurred on the night of July 27 in the boarding house area near Hung Yen Pedagogical College.

That night it was raining heavily, the victim was Mr. Hieu, sleeping in his rented room without locking the door. The subject sneaked in and stole Mr. Hieu's Iphone 6 Plus that was charging on the bedside table.

Thanks to good management of the area and subjects, the investigation agency has consolidated evidence and identified the subject who caused the above theft as Dinh Cong Trang, 41 years old, residing in An Binh quarter, An Tao ward, Hung Yen city. Trang is also the number 1 suspect who caused the murder of Mr. Truong and Ms. Hoa.

Trang's physical characteristics were very similar to the murderer of Mr. Truong and his wife as described by Son and his grandfather. After the night of the crime, Trang went to Hanoi for a day, then stayed at a friend's house in Hai Duong for two days. When things were calm, Trang returned to his home in Hung Yen.

On August 29, the Hung Yen City Police Department prosecuted and temporarily detained Dinh Cong Trang for theft. At the same time, they searched the suspect's house, confiscating knives, clothes, shoes and some related documents. The knives in the suspect's house were sent for DNA testing at the Institute of Criminal Science.

Due to the urgent nature of the case, the officers of the Institute of Criminal Science also worked day and night to get the earliest forensic results. When the forensic results were reported: On a knife seized at Trang's house, there was Ms. Hoa's DNA and the subject's, the forces participating in solving the case breathed a sigh of relief.

The next issue is the fight with Dinh Cong Trang for the murder of Mr. Truong and Ms. Hoa! Being a law-abiding and stubborn person, since his arrest, Trang only admitted to stealing a phone at the boarding house.

For 3 days, the most experienced detectives and investigators of Hung Yen Provincial Police and the Criminal Police Department directly fought the murderer with a Bachelor of Law degree. With the available scientific documents and professional measures, by the morning of September 3, the subject confessed to all his crimes.

According to Trang's confession, due to his drug addiction, at night he often wandered around to see which houses were open and unlocked, breaking in to steal small items such as phones and wallets.

That night, Trang went to Truong's house, looked through the gate, he discovered the back door was unlocked. Trang climbed over the gate, through the back door, and tiptoed into Truong and Hoa's bedroom.

At that moment, Ms. Hoa’s phone was charging on the bedside table. Just as Trang reached for the phone, Ms. Hoa woke up and grabbed her. Trang pulled out a knife and stabbed Ms. Hoa, who collapsed to death on the bed. Hearing his wife’s screams, Mr. Truong woke up and rushed to hug the suspect. Trang used the knife to stab Mr. Truong again…

Based on collected documents, the Investigation Police Department of Hung Yen Province Police has prosecuted suspect Dinh Cong Trang for murder.

It is known that Dinh Cong Trang was born into a decent family and graduated from Hanoi Law University. After graduating, Trang got a job in his field - a judicial officer in a ward in Hung Yen province. But after working for about 2 years, Trang suddenly quit because he thought the job there was not suitable for him and went to Hanoi to make a living, ignoring the advice of his family. From here, Trang's long slide began.

Living a vagrant and uncertain life in Hanoi, Trang got involved in drugs. In 2009, after a period of working at a beer bar, Dinh Cong Trang met a waitress at this bar and introduced himself as Minh. Around August 2009, Trang invited the girl out and then raped her and was sentenced to 30 months of suspended sentence by the People's Court of Hai Ba Trung District.

In addition, Trang also has a criminal record for disturbing public order. Trang currently lives with his second wife, a garment worker, and their young daughter. However, being addicted to crystal meth and having no stable job, at night, he often wanders around to "practice" petty theft.

When he went to steal, Trang always carried a knife with him in case he was caught and fought back. And tragedy happened to Truong and Hoa when they woke up and found this inhuman thief!
