Having been owed wages, no food, no drinking water... for many months, 17 crew members of the MV Whale (owned by Financial Leasing Company II, headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City, leased to Hai Phong Marine Technology Company Limited, headquartered in Hai Phong) are currently stuck in Indonesia, having to send a letter of appeal to the authorities in Vietnam. However, up to now, the crew members are still waiting in vain.

In the petition, Captain Do Dinh Giap called for help: “Since the time we got off the ship (November 2011) until now, the 17 crew members have not been paid by the ship owner. Since April 2012, we have sent emails to the ship owner informing them that we have run out of money, requesting to send money for the crew to eat, money to buy fuel... but have not received a response.” On May 18, Captain Do Dinh Giap decided to let the ship sail.Singaporedocked at Batuampar (Indonesia) to seek asylum but have not received any help so far.

On May 24, after receiving the distress call from the crew, the Vietnamese Consulate in Indonesia sent an official dispatch to the Maritime Administration, Hai Phong City People's Committee, Financial Leasing Company II, Hai Phong Marine Technology Company Limited, Tan Viet Maritime Joint Stock Company (headquartered in Hai Phong - the unit providing crew for the MV Whale) requesting relevant parties to fulfill their responsibilities to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of the crew; requesting Financial Leasing Company II and Hai Phong Marine Technology Company Limited to urgently transfer money to buy fuel, food, and drinking water to ensure the minimum living standards for the crew, and bring the ship and crew back to Vietnam as soon as possible.

Immediately afterwards, the Ministry of Transport also issued an official dispatch requesting Tan Viet Maritime Corporation and Financial Leasing Company II to immediately implement the above measures. At the same time, it requested the Consulate to support and assist the crew members on the MV Whale during the time it was anchored atIndonesia

However, the crew still did not receive any help. On June 1, the captain of the MV Whale sent two more emails to the relevant authorities asking for help regarding the ship leaking water into the engine room, requesting the ship owner to quickly provide oil to pump water, provide food, fresh water and pay the crew because the crew's life is currently very difficult, but received no response.

On the morning of June 11, a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper worked with Mr. Pham Dinh Tan, Director of Tan Viet Maritime Joint Stock Company. Mr. Tan said that the company had sent a document requesting that Finance Leasing Company II and Hai Phong Marine Technology Company Limited take action to rescue the crew and the ship. If not, Tan Viet Maritime Joint Stock Company will ask for help from the authorities to bring the MV Whale ship to Bangkok (Thailand) to release the cargo and crew. The ship owner must be responsible for any related incidents.

However, as of the afternoon of June 12, the incident showed no signs of improvement.
