Title of the page stands up

Commenting on contestant Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, photographer Hoai Thanh, who went directly to 13 provinces and cities to meet, talk and record images of the contestants, said: "Hoa did not accept to stay at home to do handicrafts as her parents requested, but passed the university entrance exam and moved to Ho Chi Minh City to live. During her time here, Hoa participated in writing for newspapers and lived off royalties."

Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa was born in 1992 in Ngoc Son commune, Thanh Chuong district. At the age of 2, Hoa suffered from polio that took away the health of her legs. “My legs gradually weakened and I could not walk. All the effort and money of my family and relatives were put into trying to help me walk again. And luckily, I can move on my own two legs, now I do not have to depend on any support tools, even though they are still quite weak,” Hoa recounted.

Like many other disabled people, Hoa had a time when she hated herself, complained about her fate and felt inferior to others. But gradually, interacting with many people in the same situation, living in love and pursuing her passion helped her realize that life is meaningful if we know how to choose a positive attitude and perspective about our own disabilities.

Now, Hoa can pour out her heart on every page of writing and poetry and consider it a gift to her loved ones. Hoa's joy now is to "jump around" on her 3-wheeled motorbike to run news, write articles to send to newspapers, to happily show off when the name her parents gave her is printed neatly on the newspaper, and happily receive royalties to cover her school expenses. Hoa also joins clubs and volunteer groups to share, to give and receive.

Currently, Hoa is working as a book editor, she tries to be attentive and meticulous to contribute to printing books to serve readers. She is also an MC for DRD (Center for Disability and Development of the City) programs, likes to practice Flashmob dancing in wheelchairs for disabled people, likes to sing Trinh music and folk songs... For Hoa, simply when doing those things, she likes to laugh in her own way.

Never give up

Also a "crescent moon", but unlike Thanh Hoa, Pham Thi My Chau had an unusual accident at the most beautiful age of a girl's life. Born in 1987 in Dien Yen commune, Dien Chau district, having graduated from accounting college, at the age of 22 Chau had an accident that resulted in spinal paralysis. Currently, Chau's two legs cannot move normally. Coming to "The Beauty of the Crescent Moon", My Chau wants to prove herself: "Although life does not bring me luck, I will not give up everything because of that, no matter what, I will still try and overcome my fate", My Chau expressed.

My Chau confided that she is still trying and striving to do her best in daily life, that is, adapting to life so as not to bother her family and relatives too much. Currently, Chau is doing some extra work such as embroidering pictures and advertising products online,...

However, My Chau also feels that her own life in particular and that of people with disabilities in general still face many difficulties in work and daily life, often feeling inferior and lacking confidence in life.

“The Beauty of the Crescent Moon 2015” was launched on April 18, 2014, with the meaning of honoring the beauty, vitality and talent of young women with disabilities in particular and the disabled community in Vietnam in general. The “The Beauty of the Crescent Moon 2015” Festival went through two rounds (preliminary and semi-final) to select 10 contestants for the final round.

The gala night honoring “The beauty of the crescent moon” will take place on December 23 in Hanoi. Through the Festival, the Organizing Committee wants to convey the message of beauty in diversity, not depending on a “perfect body” but on the willpower, intelligence, confidence and hidden talents in each person.
