200 billion VND invested in information and propaganda on nuclear power development

In Decision No. 370/QD-TTg dated February 28, the Prime Minister approved the Project on information and propaganda on nuclear power development in Vietnam until 2020 with a total estimated budget from the state budget for information and propaganda of 200 billion VND.

The general objective of the Project is to create awareness and full and correct understanding of social classes and related organizations about the nature, characteristics, necessity and benefits of nuclear power in ensuring energy security, socio-economic development of the country and the requirements for ensuring safety and security, contributing to maintaining and enhancing public consensus for the successful implementation of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project as well as for the sustainable development of nuclear power in Vietnam.

On that basis, the Project identifies specific goals by 2015, striving to implement the contents and tasks of the Information and Propaganda Program on nuclear power development to promptly and directly serve the preparation and commencement of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project, focusing on information and propaganda on the construction of nuclear power infrastructure, ensuring safety and security.
The program to disseminate basic knowledge about atomic energy and nuclear power in high schools is being implemented in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Ninh Thuan province, focusing on high school students to evaluate initial results for expansion in the next phase.

Also during this period, strive to complete the construction and put into operation the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project Public Relations Center and the Atomic Energy Information Center in Hanoi.

In the period of 2016 - 2020, the information and propaganda program on nuclear power development was strengthened and expanded to contribute to ensuring the requirements of quality, safety and efficiency of the construction and operation phase of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project's generators as well as for the preparation of subsequent nuclear power projects;

The program to disseminate basic knowledge about atomic energy and nuclear power in general education is implemented in centrally-run cities, provinces with locations listed in the planning orientation for nuclear power plant construction, and gradually nationwide.

According to the Project, the content and methods of information and propaganda are designed to be suitable for the following target groups: managers and officials of Party and State agencies; political-social organizations, unions and religions; intellectuals and scientists; students in educational and training institutions; people, especially in Ninh Thuan province and provinces with planned nuclear power plants; international organizations and related countries.

The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Science and Technology as the agency in charge of the Project, responsible for coordinating with ministries, branches and localities to organize the implementation of the Project; guiding ministries, branches and localities to develop information and propaganda plans on nuclear power by phase and annually to synthesize into the national information and propaganda plan./.
