22 drug addicts escaped from Vinh City Social Labor Education Center

The incident unfolded as follows: At 10:00 a.m. on June 7, Center Director Nguyen Van Ha and a number of officers were entering the production area to arrange some work when Nguyen Thanh Van (born in 1978), residing in Yen Binh hamlet, Hung Dong commune, a subject of compulsory drug rehabilitation, came over and said something, then used a pith helmet to hit Mr. Vinh - Head of the Community Integration Department and another officer named Trinh.

Seeing Van assaulting the officer, Mr. Ha asked: What's the matter, Van? Nguyen Thanh Van did not answer but picked up a bullet and threw it at Mr. Ha. At that time, some other students rushed over, including Pham Ngoc Hung - also a drug addict in Cua Nam ward. Hung pulled out a 30cm long knife from his shirt and threatened to stab the officer, then rushed out the gate with the students. Nguyen Thanh Van and Pham Ngoc Hung escaped with 20 students.
RightAfter the incident, the Center's leaders called the 113 Police, Vinh City Police. 15 minutes later, the 113 police forces, the security and order team, the drug police team led by the Deputy Chief of Vinh City Police arrived to coordinate with the Hung Dong Commune Police - Vinh City, Hung Tay Commune Police, Hung Nguyen District to arrest the fugitives. Four subjects were recaptured and initially confessed that they escaped because they saw chaos and had a chance to escape.
When asked, Mr. Nguyen Van Ha said that the incident happened exactly like that. He himself was also hit by a dashboard brick thrown by Nguyen Thanh Van but only suffered minor scratches on his hand.
