27 provinces and cities may be affected by super typhoon Mangkhut
(Baonghean.vn) - Super typhoon Mangkhut with intensity level 17 is very likely to directly affect our mainland on September 17; the directly affected area is the Northern region to Thanh Hoa.
On the afternoon of September 14, the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control held an online meeting to respond to super typhoon Mangkhut. Comrade Trinh Dinh Dung - Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Standing Committee of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control chaired the meeting.
Nghe An province participated in the online meeting chaired by comrades: Nguyen Dac Vinh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Hoang Nghia Hieu - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

There are currently 9 active storms in the world, of which Mangkhut is the strongest. With its current wind speed, Mangkhut is at level 5 (the highest level on the international scale).
Super typhoon Mangkhut with intensity of level 17 is active in the sea area east of the Philippines, and has begun to affect Ludong Island; it is forecasted to enter the Northeast of the East Sea in the morning of September 15 with wind speed of level 14 - 15, gusting to level 17; it is very likely to directly affect the mainland of our country on September 17; the directly affected area is the Northern region to Thanh Hoa (27 provinces and cities); the storm intensity is very strong (level 11 - 12, gusting to level 14) and causes heavy rain in the Northern and North Central regions.
The storm caused high waves of 14m in the North East Sea, 5m in the Hoang Sa archipelago, in the middle of the East Sea; the combination of rising sea levels and waves in coastal areas was 4 - 5m high.

After listening to the report on the preparation for the super typhoon in the affected localities, speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung requested ministries, branches and localities to be proactive in taking the most effective response measures to minimize damage caused by the storm.
First of all, the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control coordinates with the National Committee for Incident Response, Natural Disaster Response and Search and Rescue, relevant ministries and sectors, especially the armed forces, to proactively develop a response plan for the super typhoon. In particular, it focuses on preparing sufficient forces, equipment, means, and supplies to respond and conduct timely rescue when the storm hits; regularly updating information about the storm, promptly announcing dangerous sea areas when the storm hits so that localities and people can proactively take precautions.

Proactively take measures to ensure absolute safety at sea; review and guide all means of transport operating at sea to leave dangerous areas and enter safe anchorage areas, especially those operating far from shore; when ships have entered shelter, resolutely prohibit the sea and do not allow ships to set sail; ensure the safety of rafts and cages in coastal areas, proactively evacuate people and tourists on islands and sea areas from dangerous areas.
On land, it is necessary to ensure the safety of constructions and houses of the people. The Ministry of Construction shall coordinate with localities to review constructions that are not safe; organize tree trimming, house bracing; public works, schools, offices, traffic infrastructure, electricity, and telecommunications to minimize damage, avoid power outages, and interrupted communications. Coordinate with facility owners to implement measures to ensure the safety of production works, factories, enterprises, and service establishments; especially the safety of people in construction works; protect agricultural production, aquaculture, and crops, and minimize damage. In particular, there must be plans to evacuate people from dangerous areas as well as ensure the safety of dams.
