28,000 subscribers spreading spam messages were blocked during Tet holiday

Statistics from telecommunications companies reported to the Department of Information Security (ATTT) show that a total of 28,000 phone numbers have been blocked by companies. Viettel blocked about 3.8 million messages, a 4-5 times decrease compared to the time before Tet holiday. VinaPhone alone has decreased by 10-14 times.

Regarding the 1900XX switchboard, in the past, 3 numbers have been processed by businesses, of which VinaPhone processed 2 and Viettel processed 1 number.

The assessment of the Information Security Department also shows that, on average, compared to the same period of Tet 2014, the statistics on the number of receiving spam messages 456 of VNCERT also decreased sharply.

Regarding cyber attacks, through monitoring and information gathering from a number of units such as the Government Cipher Committee, cyber attacks have decreased compared to normal days, other forms are insignificant; regarding the issue of blocking bad information and toxic information, the Information Security Department has coordinated with relevant units, police agencies, inspected and coordinated with a number of Vietnamese enterprises to completely block them, with no major incidents.

In the coming time, the Department of Information Security will coordinate with VNPT to deploy new technical methods to block more thoroughly.

Assessing the reason for the sharp decrease in spam messages during the Lunar New Year, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai said it was thanks to the drastic intervention of the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Right before the Lunar New Year 2015, the Minister of Information and Communications issued Directive No. 82/CT-BTTTT on preventing spam messages, scam messages and strengthening information management on the Internet. On the 29th of the Lunar New Year, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son also inspected the information security assurance at a number of units.
