3,000 people walk and cycle to promote environmental protection

On the morning of June 3, at the Center for Culture and Information of Thua Thien Hue province, a rally was held to respond to World Environment Day. At the same time, at Nguyen Van Troi Park, a walk for the environment was also organized. More than 2,000 youth union members and residents participated in a walk to respond to the June 5th Environment Day, cleaned up Nguyen Van Troi Park and cycled around the city. With the theme "Hue youth volunteer to join hands to build a civilized urban lifestyle and protect the environment", the walk for the environment program opened the summer campaign of Hue youth volunteers in 2012.

This year's summer campaign of Hue youth starts from June 3 to August 31 with many activities such as environmental protection, exam support, plans to build youth projects, and many other healthy and useful playgrounds... This is an opportunity to attract and gather youth union members to demonstrate the responsibility and concern of the whole society for children and teenagers, contributing to the effective implementation of the local socio-economic program.

Also during that time, at the Provincial Cultural Information Center, a rally in response to World Environment Day was organized by the People's Committee of Thua Thien - Hue Province with the participation of more than 1,000 students, pupils, and youth union members representing the youth of Hue City.

The rally with the theme “Green Economy - Your role” highlighted the issue: Economy mainly focuses on benefits, it does not take into account the issues of preventing, reducing pollution and protecting the environment. The consequences of over-exploitation of natural resources are causing humans to face a series of environmental problems, climate change, loss of biodiversity, greenhouse effect, etc.

June 5th is chosen by the United Nations as World Environment Day to call on every individual, community and business around the world to join hands and contribute their responsibilities to building a new economic model - Green Economy. And 2012 is the year marking the 40th anniversary of World Environment Day.

Mr. Le Truong Luu - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - said: "Changing the development method, aiming at developing a green economy is a new approach of many countries in the world, including Vietnam. Responding to World Environment Day, it is necessary to further promote awareness raising, mobilize people of all walks of life and build a green growth strategy to protect the environment".
