3 illegal stone mining facilities in Tru Son - Do Luong are operating openly.
(Baonghean)In Tru Son commune (Do Luong), there are currently 3 establishments that have been blatantly operating illegal stone mining at Muoi Hai Thung for many years. People freely bring in mechanical vehicles to mine stone in broad daylight, causing environmental pollution and serious loss of national resources. The question is why has illegal stone mining in Tru Son still existed for so many years?
We made our way to Tru Son commune - Do Luong on hot sunny days, winding through the Muoi Hai Thung mountain ranges, I reached the first illegal stone mining site of "Hai Hoi" (a nickname often used by locals). Here, people have opened a gravel road to the stone area, cars and tractors go to the place to transport stones every day. Right at the end of "Hai Hoi" road, a temporary house is built to collect money every time the stone truck "leaves".
Illegal stone mining area of "Hai Hoi".
At this mining site, the rock is dug indiscriminately, hollowed out, the "stone miners" still work carefreely below, the risk of rock collapse can happen at any time. Most of the local workers hired by "Hai Hoi" to work with stone are farmers with muddy hands and feet and no professional expertise in stone mining, so disaster is always lurking. It is known that the illegal stone mining area of "Hai Hoi" belongs to the licensed area of Stone Mining Joint Stock Company 99. The Company has repeatedly complained to the authorities about the illegal stone mining subjects, however, "Hai Hoi" still openly mines day and night. A local resident said: Because of illegal stone mining, they do not have to contribute to the State budget and other fees as prescribed, so these mining sites sell stone at cheap prices. On average, each day at the "Hai Hoi" stone quarry, 12 - 15 cars and tractors are sold, earning a profit of 3 - 5 million VND per day.
We continued our way to the mining sites of “An Éo” (a nickname often used by locals), Mr. Loan. Although it was a scorching hot noon, at these mining sites, tractors were still very busy loading rocks. The entire mountain of rock was peeled off vertically, the rocks were precariously balanced on the mountain as if they were about to fall down. Observing closely, we saw them bring drills and chisels to the mining site, some “stone workers” without safety ropes climbed straight up the cliff to drill rocks. According to the locals, this mining facility detonated explosives at any time, causing rocks to fly all over the road. During the construction season, the demand for rocks was high, and illegal mining sites even brazenly brought in mechanical equipment such as excavators and loaders to load rocks.
Mr. Nguyen Si Dou - Chairman of Tru Son Commune People's Committee explained: Recently, the provincial interdisciplinary team inspected Muoi Hai Thung and confiscated 4 drilling machines and air compressors and handed them over to the commune. The commune established a team to regularly inspect this area because of concerns about occupational accidents. Mr. Dou also firmly affirmed that the illegal stone mining sites do not use mines, but mainly drill and pry stones manually (?).
The rock cliff of Muoi Hai Thung Tru Son is located in an eco-tourism area with many beautiful natural rocks, but every day they are being mercilessly "cut up". If the authorities do not soon take measures to expel the illegal stone mining sites, the landscape of Muoi Hai Thung, Tru Son commune will soon be severely damaged.
