Lao Cai province has just issued a resolution on naming 691 roads, streets and 26 public works in Lao Cai city. Notably, 3 of these roads are named after 3 typical martyrs who sacrificed heroically in the war to protect the border in February 1979. They are martyrs Vo Dai Hue, Bui Nguyen Khiet and Quach Van Rang.

Martyr, journalist, writer Bui Nguyen Khiet (1945 - 1979), native of Nho Quan, Ninh Binh province, was a frontline reporter for Hoang Lien Son newspaper under the Hoang Lien Son Provincial Party Committee. Before the border war broke out, as a reporter for Hoang Lien Son newspaper, Bui Nguyen Khiet followed the main units to the border to record with his own eyes the fighting scenes of our army and people against the invaders.

On a rocky outcrop in Ta Ngai Cho village (Muong Khuong district), through the thick fog, Khiet saw the shadow of an invading army approaching. He was busy taking notes and taking pictures. But... a flash of lightning appeared in front of the camera lens, not an electric arc but a bullet from the other side. Khiet hugged the camera tightly to his chest, while loading the last film. Bui Nguyen Khiet collapsed under a peach tree. His blood mixed with the bright red color of spring petals scattered on the ground...

A week later, in Yen Bai Town, nearly 200km from where Khiet sacrificed his life, Provincial Party Secretary Duong Viet Tien read the eulogy at the memorial service for teacher, journalist, and writer Bui Nguyen Khiet with a choked, broken voice. Perhaps he was moved by the example of sacrifice of a talented person. 35 years later, the name Bui Nguyen Khiet became the name of a new street located on DN2 road in Binh Minh ward in the new urban area of Lao Cai - Cam Duong.

Hero of the People's Armed Forces, martyr Vo Dai Hue (1952 - 1979), native of Nghi Loc district, Nghe An province, a squad officer of Regiment 16 (People's Armed Police, now Border Guard) was intelligent, resilient in combat, achieved outstanding feats and heroically sacrificed his life in the battle to protect the border in Muong Khuong (Lao Cai province) in February 1979.

Vo Dai Hue is the name of a new street (road N7 connecting with road N8 in the new urban area of Lao Cai - Cam Duong) in Bac Cuong ward, Lao Cai city.

Hero of the People's Armed Forces, martyr Quach Van Rang (1956 - 1979), native of Thach Thanh district, Thanh Hoa province, was the Deputy Platoon Leader of Border Guard Station 125 at Lao Cai international border gate. He was intelligent and tenacious in fighting to maintain his position when attacked by the enemy on February 17, 1979 and bravely sacrificed himself to maintain the integrity of the Vietnamese border guards when falling into the enemy's hands, contributing to protecting the unit moving to a new position to continue fighting to protect the Fatherland's border. Quach Van Rang is the name of a street in the new urban area of Lao Cai - Cam Duong located on N11 road connecting with Tran Hung Dao avenue in Bac Cuong ward, Lao Cai city.

Lao Cai is the first locality to name streets in the province after heroic martyrs who died in the war to protect the border, to honor their sacrifices, as the poem says: "Your names have become the name of the country" on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the war to protect the northern border in 1979.
