30 defendants sentenced to death for heroin trafficking
On January 20, the People's Court of Quang Ninh province sentenced 30 defendants to death and 13 defendants to life in prison in a case of transporting and trading more than 5,000 heroin cakes and thousands of various drug pills.
The People's Court of Quang Ninh province also sentenced the defendants for crimes related to the case such as: Forging documents of organizations; Forgery in work; Illegal possession of military weapons; Illegal business; Failure to report crimes; Bribery and Bribery brokerage... with sentences ranging from warning to 20 years in prison; in addition, the Court also required the defendants to return the profits from illegal business to the public fund (from 10 million VND to 10 billion VND).
According to indictment No. 189/KSĐT, dated November 18, 2013 of the People's Procuracy of Quang Ninh province, the case was divided into four drug trafficking rings, organized and participated by 89 defendants.
Specifically, the first ring led by Sa Van Cau, currently wanted in the Lao PDR, and his accomplices bought and sold heroin, crystal meth, synthetic drugs, and tablets from Laos to Vietnam and to China. The second ring was led by defendants Nguyen Hung Dung and Song A Lau (aka Lau); the subjects in this ring carried out the acts of buying and selling heroin, synthetic drugs, tablets, and crystal meth from Laos to Vietnam and to China. The third ring, buying and selling heroin from Vietnam to China, was led by Nguyen Thanh Tuan and his wife Vu Thi Thanh Huyen. The fourth ring was led by Nguyen Thi Hoan and Nguyen Ngoc Doan (aka Lan), illegally buying and selling heroin from Vietnam to China.
These lines operate according to a model of dividing level 1 and level 2 "agents" to distribute drugs to provinces and cities in the country and to Laos and China.
This is a case of transnational drug trafficking, with an exceptionally large quantity, many different types of drugs, from Laos through Vietnam to China and vice versa. The crime method is very sophisticated, with close collusion between domestic subjects and foreigners. The nature of the crime is especially dangerous, using many types of military weapons and ready to fight back when discovered.
