300 officials and reporters nationwide updated with knowledge and information about seas and islands

(Baonghean.vn) - 300 reporters, correspondents, and editors from press agencies across the country have been updated with knowledge and information about the sea and islands.

Attending the conference were comrade Bui Truong Giang - Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department and 300 delegates including reporters, representatives of leaders of State management agencies, experts in the field of sea and islands and officers and reporters from press agencies nationwide.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, comrade Bui Truong Giang - Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department emphasized that in the current context, the need for information related to Vietnam's seas and islands is very large.

In particular, the press and the team of reporters are the forces that play an important role in propaganda work. Therefore, the conference aims to supplement knowledge, update information about the sea and islands in particular, and the strategy of building and protecting the Fatherland in the new situation in general for the team of reporters and those working in propaganda. From there, it contributes to promoting propaganda work, raising awareness about Vietnam's sea and islands for all classes of people.

Vietnam is a maritime nation. The sea is a living space, a gateway for international exchange, closely linked to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. The 8th Conference of the Central Executive Committee (12th tenure) passed Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW dated October 22, 2018 on "Vietnam's sustainable marine economic development strategy to 2030, vision to 2045", which affirmed: "Vietnam must become a strong maritime nation, rich from the sea, with sustainable development, prosperity, security and safety; sustainable development of the marine economy is closely linked to ensuring national defense and security, maintaining independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, strengthening foreign affairs and international cooperation on the sea, contributing to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for development".

At the conference, delegates learned the basic contents of the Strategy for Sustainable Development of Vietnam's Marine Economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045, and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNLOS); the situation in the East Sea in recent times; issues arising from the task of firmly protecting sovereignty over seas and islands; maintaining and developing peaceful, friendly, cooperative foreign relations, and developing together with countries in the East Sea region; results of implementation against illegal fishing, etc.

In addition, delegates also exchanged experiences in information work on mass media on issues related to Vietnam's seas and islands./.
