31 years in prison for 3 murderers and failure to report crimes

(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of September 13, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial to try Lo Thanh Linh (born 1992) and Lo Van Tuan (born 1990, residing in Mon Son commune, Con Cuong district) for murder; Lo Van Hoan (born 1992) for "failure to report a crime".

According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, on the evening of March 12, 2012, Linh, Tuan and Hoan attended a friend's wedding. There, Linh took a glass of wine to the table of Ha Van Tim (born in 1981, residing in Luc Da commune, Con Cuong). Because he did not know Linh and was already drunk, Tim refused. Annoyed that Tim refused to drink, Linh discussed with Tuan and Hoan to stop and beat him.

On the way home, the three of them prepared their weapons and waited for Tim to attack them. Seeing Ha Van Tim approaching the shop on his motorbike, Linh ran out to block his way and asked, "Why didn't you drink when I invited you to drink?" and told Tuan to get a stick. Tuan took a wooden stick about 1.2m long and gave it to Linh before going into the shop to watch the billiards. With the weapon in hand, Linh hit Tim on the head, stomach, and chest, causing the victim to fall unconscious. After committing the crime, Linh went home to sleep.

Seeing people taking Tim to the emergency room, Tuan and Hoan also ran out to see and then left. Despite receiving emergency care, Tim died shortly after due to a traumatic brain injury that fractured his skull and caused intracranial bleeding.

Considering the defendants’ actions to be particularly serious, the panel sentenced Lo Thanh Linh to 20 years in prison and Lo Van Tuan to 10 years in prison. Lo Van Hoan was sentenced to 12 months in prison for failing to report a crime. In addition, Lo Thanh Linh and Lo Van Tuan must jointly compensate the victim’s family 102 million VND.
