31 people died in a plane crash into a river in Taiwan
A TransAsia Airways plane carrying 58 people crashed into a river in Taipei this morning, killing at least 31 people and leaving 12 missing.

The fuselage was lifted to the river bank by a crane by rescue teams. According to BBC, at least 31 people were killed. 15 people were rescued while 12 are missing. Rescue teams continue to search the river for them.

Rescue teams will continue working through the night to search for the remaining 17 passengers, believed to be still trapped in the submerged fuselage, according to AFP.

Lin Tyh-ming, head of Taiwan's Civil Aviation Administration, said the plane, flight number GE235, had just undergone maintenance on January 26, Reuters reported.
China's Taiwan Affairs Office said 31 people on board the crashed flight were tourists from the Chinese city of Xiamen.
