33% of international tourists return to Vietnam
A survey of 14,000 foreign tourists found that about a third of them had been to Vietnam and then returned for a second, third or more times.
The survey was conducted in the last two months of 2014. Accordingly, 67% of the participants were first-time visitors to Vietnam. The number of people returning for the second time was about 18%, the rest were visitors who returned three times or more.

Speaking to VnExpress, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, said: "This is a good sign for the Vietnamese tourism industry. This 33% figure is the actual number of visitors who have returned to Vietnam. If we also survey first-time visitors, we think the figure will be up to 50%."
Previously, nearly 14,000 survey forms in 6 different languages were distributed, targeting international tourists and Vietnamese people living abroad. Forms were also sent to 1,000 international travel companies and 63 Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism nationwide.
In addition to investigating the rate of international visitors returning to Vietnam, the General Department of Tourism also surveyed a number of other contents, including average spending level, spending structure of a tourist; satisfaction assessment; structure of overnight stays, day tours...
Accordingly, the average spending of a guest staying overnight at a tourist accommodation facility is about 1,100 USD; a day trip is 125 USD. The highest spending is from tourists from Australia and New Zealand with 1,667 USD per visit.
Regarding the level of satisfaction of the trip in Vietnam, the majority of international visitors rated it very good and good. Very few visitors rated it average and poor.
Mr. Tuan said that this survey is a necessary activity to determine tourism indicators, which is important, contributing to the national international economy, serving management and policy making in the industry.
