(Baonghean.vn) - Due to cloudy weather, continuous northeast monsoons, high humidity and drizzle, 350 hectares of pine forest of Yen Thanh Protective Forest Management Board have been damaged by caterpillars.

According to a survey in the pine forest area in Xuan Thanh and Dong Thanh communes, the worms appeared at the age of 4 and 5; the density was from 7 to 15 worms/tree. To protect the safety of the pine forests preparing to enter the resin exploitation period, the Yen Thanh Forest Protection Management Board purchased an additional 700 kg of Bevorin biological product and 400 kg of additive powder to kill the caterpillars. Accordingly, from March 12, the Board mobilized workers, laborers and technical staff to use motor pumps to spray biological products to kill the worms.

The past few days have had light drizzle, which is a favorable condition for using the biological product Bevorin to kill pine caterpillars.

Despite the rugged mountainous terrain and steep slopes, with the motto of spraying promptly and effectively, workers have accelerated the spraying progress with 4 machine shifts/day. It is expected that by March 17, the entire infected pine area will be sprayed, preventing the development of an epidemic and limiting the spread of the disease to a large area; the total cost of this spraying is 265 million VND.

In the current weather conditions, it is forecasted that the situation of pine caterpillars will continue to be complicated. Along with strengthening investigation work and using biological products for prevention and eradication, Yen Thanh Protective Forest Management Board also mobilized workers in production teams No. 3 and No. 4 to catch caterpillars by manual methods, ensuring the safety of 500 hectares of pine, striving to achieve 260 tons of resin exploitation in 2016.
