The most obvious change from this market is the increase in imports of fresh vegetable products and the gradual reduction of canned vegetable products, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.

Vietnam is considered one of the 15 countries exporting the most agricultural products to the US market. Currently, the world's leading economy is importing Vietnamese agricultural products such as cashew nuts, coffee, seafood (shrimp, pangasius), pepper, rubber and other fruits.

For example, Vietnam has become the fourth largest seafood supplier to the United States in terms of volume and fifth in terms of value. In the first five years of this year, seafood exports to the United States reached 422.77 million USD, an increase of 11.2% over the same period last year.

However, the Ministry of Industry and Trade also said that in the coming time, Vietnamese agricultural products exported to the United States will face more difficulties because this country will conduct quality inspections of imported agricultural products according to the newly issued Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).

According to the law, from 2012, the United States will implement a strict inspection process for imported goods from all countries, including agricultural products, food, and beverages. Also according to FSMA, the United States Department of Agriculture will have the right to order inspections, or recall products exported to the United States if they do not ensure quality, and at the same time charge the exporter of that product.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first 5 months of 2012, Vietnam's export turnover to this market reached about 7.33 billion USD, an increase of 18.03% over the same period in 2011. In 2011, exports to the United States brought Vietnam 16.7 billion USD, accounting for 17.4% of total export turnover.

In 2012, the United States is still considered one of Vietnam's key export markets with export turnover expected to reach about 20 billion USD.
