The driver of the bus with license plate 83B-000.40 turned the wheel sharply to the right to avoid a collision, but crashed straight into the nearby rocky cliff. The car continued to sway, and after running about 100m, it overturned onto the road.

Mr. Do Xuan Kham, a resident living near the scene, said that after
Hearing a loud noise, followed by the screams and panic of many people, he ran out and saw that the passenger bus had overturned. He immediately mobilized more than 10 guerrillas from the neighborhood to run up and help take the victims out of the bus to the emergency room.

The incident caused the entire Prenn Pass, about 10km long, to be blocked by authorities to conduct rescue operations. All vehicles traveling to and from Da Lat had to switch to Khe Sanh Pass.
